My thoughts:

1) organic compounds possibility of life - most stuff for the uber space dorks as said above

2)When life is finally confirmed it'll match Earth life which has contaminated most of our solar system.

Mars discovery 'one for history books'

Very exciting...what could it possibly be? I'm all for speculation at this point ^_^

Hopefully not some sort of crazy alien race living under the surface...

It must be pretty big, right?

Oh come on, no surprise, just found my DNA there.

I blew a load and it made it all the way to the red planet.

Probably true.

Also, there's no way anything from earth is on mars other than a rover. It's too far away and the rover is covering far too little ground.

there's plenty of earth stuff all over mars. not only are all of our probes covered in microbes that survive space, but lots of rocks have been blasted from 1 planet to another.

I read in yahoo news that they discovered that an astronaut could survive on mars because they get the same radiation exposure as they would on the International Space Station.

Maybe that's it.

Probably laying the groundwork for a Geraldo special on it, just like Al Capone's safe.

this is all garbage to make people think they arent wasting money. theres is only one definitive proof that life exists other places than earth--a freaken alien in a jar. realistically there probably is life in other parts of the universe, but it isnt nearly so common that you have a chance of finding it on every eighth planet

Well good thing there are more planets than your brain could count.

Clearly they found complex carbon compounds, and are now analyzing the data to be 100% sure they're organic.
