married students...how do you handle surviving?

So all you young college students that are married. How do you guys find ways to make money to pay all the bills? With full time college, do you guys also go full time job? Is it a constant struggle being married, to take care of the "S/O?"

well with our combined income + lack of kids...well I guess we aren't students as we both have fairly decent salary jobs (35,000x2) so life is good :)

But yeah, I'm 21 and she's 22, and we make out just fine :)

Original poster... how do you keep from redundantly repeating yourself in the post subject?

I think it'd be odd to be married in college.

I am not sure what the exact stats are but not too many relationships make it through med school let alone marriages. Most likely after the s.o. helps fund a 1-income household the other leaves as soon as the M.D. diploma is printed. Potential future income, however, is a factor in determing alimony/child support, etc. Hopefully you have a wife that is very well aware of the time commitment that med school is.

My wife and I have gotten married, bought a house, went a long honeymoon, had a child, raised a lab puppy (needed the most patience!) and both held full time jobs while I pursued my J.D.

When my wife and I were both in college, it was lots of Ramen noodles, and lots of 'homework'.

Yea, I know all about the stats and blah blah blah. She's going to law school at the same university as I'm attending med school, and we're both well aware of the time commitment. I'm not the least bit worried, we've been through a hell of alot together growing up. No one knows the future, however.

I decided not to propose until we atleast one of us were out of school. Since I knew she'd be done this month w/ a Bach. in CJ, I went ahead and asked her back in August. Our house will be finished in January so we will be living together. Oh, she's 20 and I'm 21...The company I'm with pays for my Tuition (I do around 15 credits a sem. and 40 hrs a week) and that is where I will be applying my CS degree. She has a job w/ the Country Sheriff.

First, I worked to help put my husband through college. I worked part time as an afterschool care director at a private school. We had a preschooler who could come with me to work.

Then, after we had another kid, he had graduated from college and started his career. I did a lot of babysitting and housekeeping for other people to make extra money. During that time, I finished my degree (working part time, school part time, home making full time).

Then I got pregnant with another and he was doing well in his career, so I got to enjoy staying home and working as a freelance writer for a while.

It's been good. You can find a way to make it work if you BOTH put the effort in. No one should just sit around and do nothing!

There was a Senior in one of my highschool classes last year that was married.
