I certainly think that if the relationship between the girl and the father that this is a very important thing to do. You're not really "asking permission", but rather showing that you respect her, him, and their relationship. If he says "no", then you probably misjudged the relationship (or you're a fscker), and then you do it anyway. No harm, no foul.

My opinion is that it's silly to ask for parental blessing / permission / whatever, but... if you want to, JUST DO IT MAN. Really, if you know they're happy with it, get them in the same room, and ask dang it. Warm-up for popping the question to the lucky girl?
