He never did. we were living together and it was my decession not my fathers. I was never close with my dad and didnt care if he did or did not.

Yes, I asked her parents... this is how it went down:

- went to the inlaws on a Sunday when my wife was busy doing other stuff
- watching football with her parents
- very nervous about asking - and i'm not usually nervous
- on a commercial break, i just looked over and started chatting...
- when i eventually asked for their permission, it seemed like they knew that's what i was there for all along
- her Dad shook my hand & her mom hugged me
- her mom cooked me my favourite meal and we had a little toast

I asked her parents on the golf course 🙂 They both joked that I had to let them beat me, but I did no such thing  They still gave me their blessings 🙂

Ahhh... in a perfect little world this is how it would go down. There is no chance in hell that it will work out this nicely for me. I have no idea how I'm going to approach her Dad... we hardly talk and I think he's made eye contact w/ me once in 2 yrs.

Do it in person...

I went over to their house and said "So... I bought Holly a ring... any objections to me giving it to her this weekend?" 🙂

In Person with both my wife's Dad and Step-mom and her Mom and Step-Dad . . .

Double the pleasure double the fun . . .

🙂

The bolded part would have been the clue for my in-laws. I've never gone to their houses without my wife.

I don't need anybody's permission; I'm my own man. If her parents had a problem with me, they could have mentioned it during the time we were dating.

I didn't ask my first wife's parents.

I plan on marrying my gf and I will not ask her parents.

In church. He died before I had the chance to ask him and since his ashes were scattered at sea, church seemed the next best thing.

She was always under her parent's thumb so I thought I would teach them a lesson.

No, we got engaged before I met her parents. Her parents loved me from the get-go anyway, so that was a good thing... 😉
