Good luck finding a copy! In Dearborn, MI, Beast Buy didn't have it and still shows as a pre-order coming next Tuesday, so even if they had it, they couldn't sell it; Target and Circuit City had squat and Gamestop doesn't carry PC games anymore. Way to fail!!!! :|
Um, my Gamestop is getting it in tomorrow. In fact, I've already pre-ordered it there.
They don't stock it normally and I hate Gamestop anyway. The point is that on release day, three major retail chains don't have it on their shelves and one thinks it's coming out in a week!

Edit: Amazon now says "In stock on September 18, 2008."

Way to fail Atari. That's why you're irrelevant!

They do stock it normally. I went in today and asked if they got it in. They said "tomorrow" and asked me if I wanted to go ahead and pre-order/pre-pay for it.

The Gamestop across from my work does NOT carry PC games! I asked them and they only take pre-orders for big titles like WOW Lich, etc. If I wanted to go in and buy a copy of Crysis or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - the originals, not the sequels - I couldn't. Yours may be different, this one doesn't.

(Edited typo and clarified a point)

Supposed to be up for download tomorrow. :)

Some of the torrents I've seen are nearly 20GB in size, but they include the base game as well.

Amazon shows it in stock. Beast Buy still has next week listed. Circuit City doesn't even have the EE in their site. Gamestop has it on their site, but when I searched for in-store availability, I got "No new products found within 100 miles of this ZIP code." I can wait a couple of weeks for a sale - I'm not THAT hot to trot for this game; it's just getting to be the principle of the thing. A release date of 9/16 should mean you can buy it, barring delays, which none have been issued that I've heard about.

Downloading now, looks like their servers are getting pummeled a little. Only pulling 80KB/s on the EE patch.

They must have expanded their capacity because I'm getting 200k or better on 3/4 of the files.

Yeah, it jumped up for me too after about 10 minutes.

But, it only grabbed about 200MB worth before suddenly stating it was finished and quitting.

Its listed as nearly a GB, wtf?

Edit - Second attempt - 30KB/s. Sad.

Yeah, my Price of Neutrality download fizzled out and I had to start it over. Only getting about 30 KB/sec now too. This set of files is a perfect fit for Bittorrent distribution.

Edit: Arrgghh, actually all the files fizzled out, so I'm starting the downloads over again.

From Stardock Impulse Forums:

The ESRB is currently working on rating the uncensored version of The Witcher. Once this is done, and assuming CD Projekt gives us the assets, we will put up the uncensored content as an optional update.

The Extras will be downloadable at a later date as a separate package from The Witcher. The game is too big already, so we're sectioning off the extra bits.

The Extras are: Game Guide (PDF), Manual (PDF), World Maps (JPG) soundtracks (audio files), and the Making of DVD is a set of WMV video files.

To those wondering about digital download version.

Now I'm feeling even better about paying more for a boxed copy. Whenever I see people burbling about how they love Steam/D2D/Impulse/whatever, I think, "Yeah, but it's faster to install 15GB of game off a disc in your PC than to download it."

Though the Beast Buy still shows it as pre-order, I just picked up a copy while at lunch. Hoowah!!!

Trying again after work now. I may end up just waiting until next week for Gogamer to ship my UK copy.

Played for a couple hours already and it's pretty cool. Took perhaps 20 minutes to load (didn't time it) and all the discs are sweet. I appears that there is no DRM on it, only requiring a disc check and we all no how long that'll last. Kudos to CDProjekt and Atari for not forcing keys or activation.

WFT. Unfortunately the CD-key only method seems to be going the way of the dodo.

Alrighty then, just pulled the trigger on this one, sorta. Went to Amazon and saw the Enhanced Edition for $36 + tx (free shipping), but noticed the original Witcher was just $28, and that if you use "bill me later" they knock off another $5. Total bill, after tax, free shipping = $26. Pretty damn good bargain. No reason to pay extra for the Enhanced, I know how to download a patch, and couldn't care less about having the cd soundtrack or 'making of' vids. Also picked up Crysis - Warhead for $25 during the presale, looks like I'm gonna have a frugal fall.

For a company that pretty much re-released the game as a favor to the community and listens to the community , I'm very surprised CDP hasn't released the patches as torrents. My downloads keep timing out intermittently (using FlashGet)

I'm quite surprised at people buying the digital versions of this. Doesn't the box come with a bunch of extra stuff?

Extras will be made available via pdf/wmv... Though I honestly don't care about the extra content, I only want the game.

Well, some bought the boxed editions. I did, and many on the CDP forums did as well. I'd rather have the boxed copy, physical copies of the extras, and not have to worry about installing patches.

I wonder if work as has started on The Witcher 2 yet? ;)

The Impulse version from Stardock is drm free. Enough to say that I'm off to Impulse and make a purchase.

"The Witcher: Enhanced Edition will be available through Impulse on September 16th to coincide with the retail relaunch. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition is being made available with ABSOLUTELY NO DRM OF ANY KIND. No wrappers, no CD checks, nothing. "
