wow, now if only we could get Mushin Muhammed to stay for $2. He'll be a big salary cap hit if we keep him and don't restructure his contract. Mark Fields is an awesome standup guy who did pretty well last season considering he just got back from cancer treatment.

there's a line between stupidity and loyalty... he should get paid what he's worth... no need to say he'll play for nothing.

its not always about the money. he has loyalty which i respect. i would rather have someone on my team that wants to be there cause he loves the team. not cause my team offered him the most money.

you go to work and because you love the work or your company so much, you have these feeling of loyalty. Are you really going to work for them for almost nothing ? You do have mouths to feed... and you should feed it with the money you are worth, no more and no less. Telling them they don't have to pay you so much is a feel-good thing, but you are only hurting yourself for no practical reason.

He will still get at least $760,000 next year as the article suggests b/c it's the minimum for a guy who has been around as long as he has.

trust me, he's gonna get paid, maybe not as much as he could have if he played hardball with them though. To me as a fan, loyalty and honor such as he displayed, would make me come out and support him and the team even more. I'm tired of guys just in it for the money and not for the game and for the fans. He's not hurting himself, and the practical reason is it will foster good will amonst the fanbase who will come out and support him. Besides, we and the team stood by him during his lowpoint in his life, why shouldn't he feel the same way towards us. He doesn't owe us anything, but he's doing it anyways. Don't worry about it rh71, you just wouldn't understand something like that...

If the owner is willing to pay that much, then yes, he is worth it.

And then he gets hurt and the only career he has any training for is over at the age of 25...

Not to question/diminish the value of his claim, but the minimum salary's still pretty high, and NFL players take paycuts all the time. They call it "restructuring" their contracts.

I call it playing crappy in every year but the final year of your contract so that the team overpays.
