Story

KABUL (Reuters) - He survived a king, a coup, Soviet occupation, communist rule, internecine mujahideen battles, the Taliban and a U.S. bombing campaign. But on Saturday, the only lion in Afghanistan died of old age in Kabul Zoo.

A Taliban fighter once climbed into Marjan's enclosure to prove his bravery, only to be killed and devoured by the then much more sprightly lion.

I wonder WTF was up with those Taliban characters? Climbing in lion's dens. Hosting fanatical terrorist organizations.

The fighter's brother returned the next day and lobbed a grenade at Marjan in revenge, blinding him and causing his lameness.

Talk about a bunch of lamers. :|

RIP Marjan.

Not about the lion but at the stupidity of those people. A guy knowingly walks into a lion den, gets killed, and his brother thinks he needs to get revenge against the lion? Pure idiocy..........

Too bad for that lion. I read a story about the Kabul zoo months ago. Years ago one of the warring sides used the zoo as a stronghold. So what did the opposition decide to do? Lob artillery at the zoo. A missle landed right in the elephant's pen and killed it. So sad. 🙁
