Nintendo is all about cartoonish games. Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong...it's all geared towards pre-teens and teenagers. Hell, the most "adult" game they have is like Goldeneye.

Can you see Nintendo coming out with GTA or Halo type game? I can't.

Why do cartoonish graphics mean a game is geared toard pre-teens and teenagers?

What's everyone's take on the new Wii controls?

I was getting pretty excited for Nintendo while reading the comments on this board during Nintendo's conference (I wasn't able to watch the stream). However, after downloading and watching the video myself, there's no way in hell I'll be able to play a game like that for more than a few minutes.

Don't call me lazy, either, I just don't see playing games like that. If I wanted exercise, I'd go out and mow the lawn.

I thought a first-person shooter would rock, but seeing this Red Steel game made me think otherwise. The only thing I saw that I thought looked cool was Duck Hunt, hardly a $200-$250 must-spend on the system, though. I like the idea of Solid Snake in Smash Bros., but I'm not playing that with the Wii-mote either.

Simply put, for me, if Nintendo would release a regular, no-frills controller along with the system, I'd probably pick it up.

You can use a GameCube controller, and there is a SNES-style controller add on with two analog sticks (like Sony's controller). The SNES-style controller would obviously be great for the retro games, apparantly you may also be able to clip the Wii-mote to it to add motion sensing capabilities. That could be pretty cool.

It looks good. Is it just me or is Mario going away from its original gaming characteristics?

This seems like one of the typical games on a PS2, I'm forgetting the name.

I love Mario but I think they need to go back to what made Mario great in the first place.

I can't wait to see what Zelda on the Wii looks like.

Is it just me or does Nintendo Revolution sound a lot better than Nintendo Wii?

Looked like it was a Mario type game to me. Also, keep in mind this is Mario Galaxy, not a game in the standard Mario line.

Yes, but Super Mario Sunshine was also one of the games I was referring to. That game was sweet, nice graphics, but it was a bit weird playing it. The music, the atmosphere didn't really feel Marioish. Maybe it is just me.

I just want to play a classic Mario game that borrows heavily from the old traditional style Mario games.

then get the new mario game that's coming out on the DS!! :) from my impressions from playing it, it's really awesome. trust me.

Mario is controller with the enalog stick and the wii-mote is used sparingly. Smash bros doesn't use it at all from what I've read.

That looks pretty cool. The graphics are better than I expected...interesting concept.

I loved super mario bros and the original mario.. but this doesn't look too fun. I don't think it has much to do with age. It just looks too simple - trying to run away from cannons.
But then again, having the actual controller in my hands and playing the game can be completely different. As the saying goes, don't judge a book by its cover.
I also hope there's more variety to the levels (I"m sure there will be though).

How is the Wii controller handled? does anyone have a video or link to one that shows them in action?

Sweet thanks, checking out their site, reason I asked is cause I have a hard time with console controllers, I have about 20% motor function in my right arm/wrist/fingers. I mastered playing sega, gameboy, nintendo, and PSone with just one hand but games on console today have too many buttons for me to handle, thats why I am curious about this new controller. But methinks its going to be too hard for me to control and I'd just end up wasting money because I'd never play it.:frown:

I think of all the controllers, this would be the easiest to do with one hand... at least that's what it looks like...

looks good, but not amazing. Oh well. I think the key to the Wii's success will be its price at launch. If it can undercut the other systems and fly off the shelf, couple that with some good releases down the road and it should be able to take back a lot of nintendo's historic market share.

Are you talking the nunchuck attachment that's held with one hand? If so, no thanks to that either. I want a traditional controller, not two separate pieces, once for movement, one for hitting buttons....I don't care whether the motion sensing stuff is active or not.

i'm quite excited for wii, looks to have good gameplay, a ton of cool features, and its cheap.

Also I read that Nintendo is going to cater to the small developers. I wounder if this means we might see homebrew stuff on the console (Wii Media Center anyone? )

There are 2.5 controller setups Nintendo is talking about right now:

1) Just the Wiimote
1.5) Wiimote + nunchuck
2) Full-sized 2-handed controller, the new "classic" controller for emulated games
2.5) The GameCube controller, which is compatible with the Wii(this is the controller you'd use with games like Smash Bros. Brawl).

You can't really have a motion sensing controller like the Wii as a traditional 2-handed controller, 2 hands on the same controller limits your movements too much.

is there an equivalent one of these for ps3...?

Yes but it's not even worth watching. The sony conference that was a huge joke and pretty much the downfall of sony this generation.

I haven't been this excited for a console since the SNES. I own an N64 and a PSX, and both had great games but neither system "wowed" me. And aside from a select few titles, I could give a rats ass about the last generation of consoles. After finally seeing some gameplay trailers/teasers for some Wii games I've put the console at the top of my "Must Have" list. And to all the people who still think Nintendo is too "kiddy" to ever fathom owning lest your sexuality be called into question... GOOD. Means I won't have trouble finding one when they're released.

I'm quite excited about having easy access to old classics again. I'll be playing a lot of those, hopefully they're priced well...yes I know you can download them all for free.
