The thing that I find crazy about the whole situation is how other far-right leaders in France apparently are against her being banned from electable positions. I mean, I get it from a "she's one of ours" perspective (and they're likely as corrupt as fuck too), but in terms of the political spectrum and their ability to gain more supporters, they've pushed themselves further from the mainstream by basically advocating that a person who abused their political position to an undebatable criminal extent (ie. it wasn't a victimless / purely procedural crime) is someone who should be allowed back into such a position.

No doubt they'll spin it some other way, but the counterargument is easy to make. IMO they should have counted their blessings in that they now have one less competitor.
People who are anti-immigrant or xenophobic care less about rule of law. Something Trump recognized when he said he could shoot someone on the street and still get elected.

Perhaps, but there's a process of radicalisation that many have to go through to become unashamedly far-right (and some never reach the full extreme and yet are say MAGA). I'm talking about how far-righters appeal to those who are vulnerable to their BS.

I thought maybe it was a reference to this sort of thing:
