http://healthyliving.msn.com/pregna...s-poisoned-by-medical-marijuana-study-finds-1

Legalizing marijuana may have unintended consequences. Since medical marijuana was legalized in Colorado, more than a dozen young children have been unintentionally poisoned with the drug, researchers report.

OH SH*T! after thousands of years without harmful effects, it now seems that since we legalized it there are unintended consequences!

To prevent harm to children, Wang advises treating marijuana like any other drug and keeping it out of their reach, particularly if it's in a tempting form like cookies.

harm?

After decriminalization, 14 children -- mostly boys and some as young as 8 months -- were found to have ingested marijuana. Eight had consumed medical marijuana, and seven ate marijuana in foods. Two were admitted to the intensive care unit.

intensive care!??! this doesnt sound right... oh wait, here in the same article

Children recover quickly in most cases, Wang said. "They don't need more than a day or two of hospitalization," he said. "There were no deaths or lasting side effects."

wtf? so which is it?

articles like these make me want to punch a wall. THC is safer then aspirin, yet theres no cause for alarm when kids get into that stuff. guess what, propaganda idiots? marijuana is like the internet, good luck stopping it. Im not advocating kids eating weed, but to say its going to hurt them if they get into it once is just silly. there used to be a time where doctors gave kids weed to help agonizing symptoms without harmful side effects... why are our doctors getting dumber? (or do THEY not want to say anything because THEY dont want to be singled out?)

Weed has LOTS of negative side effects, particularly when taken daily. It does affect brain development, so it certainly could be considered dangerous for small children with growing brains.

And a lot of these stoners who insist it's safe haven't stopped smoking for a couple of days since they started toking.

Talk to the people who have gone through weed withdrawal and get their perspective.

Weed, like almost any drug, is safe in moderation. But these kids claiming weed is 100% safe to use in excess have no idea what they're talking about.

I guess we should criminalize acetaminophen..... how many people die each year accidently taking too much of this drug? In 2011 13.4% of all emergency room visits for unintended overdoses were by children under 6 years old.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21565648

True story. Acetaminophen would never be approved by the FDA today as a new drug. I worked for a drug testing company that was doing a grant study on it. It is by far one of the worst drugs that we tested. Made me think twice about popping a Tylenol for every headache.

Marijuana addiction can exist; it just doesn't create the same physical addition seen in cigarettes, cocaine, etc., and tends to not be very severe.

Considering that in CO and the other "legal" states; it is illegal for children; should one question how these children are being exposed to wed in the first place?

Do you see people with cigs offering their personal cig to a child

Are the weed smokers doing so?

Conservative raving twits are conservative raving twits, always.

Marijuana "poisoning"? Really? There is no fatal dose, other than being hit by a bale of it falling out of an airplane.

A lot more toddlers are dangerously poisoned by things like chewing tobacco, cigarettes, alcohol, bleach, drain cleaner & poisonous ornamental plants than by marijuana, but that's not what "conservatives" want to hear, is it? Of course not. They want to hear about the evils of something their trusted sources identified as "evil" w/o any factual basis whatsoever. As always, they Believe!, with a capital B and an exclamation point.

Why do they Believe? Because they've been propagandized & indoctrinated since they could first understand the meaning of words.

Why is marijuana illegal? Because right wing propagandists haven't figured out how to continue indoctrination when people use the stuff. Their head isn't in the target zone that's been carefully triangulated for generations. The emotional hooks & handles are different, not as prone to self righteousness & denial, nor to greed & ego, all of which are the bedrock of so-called "conservative" thought, along with a fear of being wrong about anything, ever, even shit they don't comprehend at all.

Stoners recognize Rush as a big fat idiot, The Sarah! as a total bimbo, Dick Cheney as a total Dick, and all the right wing gas bags as just that.

Nobody likes to lose their audience, particularly right wingers with Calvinist social agendas, so they'll fight like hell to make sure that the only legal intoxicants are both stupefying & addictive. They understand stupid- they exploit it all the time. It's their meat & potatoes. Parroting their line of shit is what our conservative posters do all the time, even as they're dumb enough to believe that it was their idea in the first place.

MJ is entirely a mental dependency fabricated in their mind because they use it so regularly it becomes a part of their daily lifestyle. Whereas all those other substances create a chemical dependency within a user's body. Some can be quite painful and even threaten death if the user was a chronic abuser (alcohol is one of those). MJ users might be mildly irritable and have some sleep problems for a week or so after they quit.

If you have a medical marijuana prescription and keep it in the house in cookie form with small children in the house but don't do anything extra to keep it away from the children, then you are an idiot and should be flogged.

It's addicting like peeing in the shower is addicting. A better word is habit forming.

I peed a few times in the shower when I would face the shower head and have the water directly on my face. After about 3 times whenever I would assume that position I would feel my bladder tingling even if I had just urinated before the shower. It took a solid 2-3 weeks of diligently peeing before my showers and resisting the urge to force out a tinkle before I was over the habit and my bladder no longer tingled.

Nicely done. At least you recovered. Some of us are still suffering.

Now I have to redefine guys who tell you they don't piss in the shower. To the liar category (all of them) I must add recovering pisser.

There have been relapses, I won't lie about that. I think peeing in the shower is about as habit forming as nicotine and heroine are addicting. It really takes just one time of not peeing immediately before your shower to fall back into the cycle.

Agreed.

I've been around those who were trying to kick cigarettes as well as those who decided no more weed. The difference between the two is just amazing, the people in nicotine withdrawl being some of the biggest flaming assholes I've ever encountered. The tokers looked antsy at worst, and could still function like normal people.

I read it. Hospitalization for mj "poisoning" is an absurdity. Dr Wang took a page from the lawyers' handbook- he's just churning fees, filling beds & spreading FUD.

Indoctrinated as you are, you wouldn't recognize that if beaten half to death with it. Nor would you recognize your own denial if drowning in it.
