marantz. projector. 1080p.

HAWT

$15k isn't nearly as insane as the $30k Sony wants for a Qualia....

6,500:1 contrast ratio but only 700 lumens🙁 I hope that is a typo.

I doubt it's a typo, HT projectors typically have very low brightness, especially those with high contrast ratios.

Sony's Ruby is much cheaper.

Sony VPL-VW100

1920 x 1080 native resolution
15,000:1 contrast
800 ANSI lumens
22 dB Noise
$9999 MSRP, commonly available for as low as $8500 or so

cool!

I know these costs must speed higher then the starts to a lot of you, but as a projector owner I must say these prices are impressive none the less. A year or two ago a 1080p projector would run you $50,000-100,000. Still, they are not worth owning in my opinion. There just isn't enough source material out there in 1080p. A 720p projector is a far better value in the current market we find ourselves in.

I guess you missed the thread on the new HD-DVD box being released. It's only a matter of time before you see movies in 1080p. Notice anything????

So where might I find a Blu Ray player? Or HD DVD player?

You can't get a Blu-ray player yet because they pushed it back, but your local BB or CC should have the HD-DVD player.

Yeah, the Ruby is truly fantastic. I'm quite satisfied with my InFocus X1 though 😉

not to mention full of bugs and very limited movies as in a grand total of 3 I believe.

Like I said, there isn't much reason to opt of a 1080p projector now. Later, maybe. But not now. Of course buying this kind of hardware for the future is as absurd as getting a video card now for future games. By the time 1080p content is more common, 1080p projectors will be cheaper.

What bugs have you heard about? The 2 people I've chatted with that bought one are loving theirs.

While it does stand to reason 1st generation hardware has their fair share of problems (PS2, Regular DVD, Xbox 360 ect.) , few have been reported with HD DVD. As of right now anyway.

i have a Marantz 1120 which was $450 back in 1974.

don't you ever, ever sell that thing.

Unless you sell it to me.

I'm serious. What do you want for it.

700-800 lumens is fine. i dont know what you guys are complaining about. people always want the best of the best just to say they have it. DONT WATCH YOUR PROJECTOR IN BROAD DAYLIGHT WITH A WINDOW IN FRONT OF THE SCREEN! omg, that was so hard to figure out!
