I liked shoot 'em up. It was exactly what I expected, brainless action. Not my favorite style of movie, but better than similar crap in the same category like die hard 4.

Agree it was brainless action.

That was the whole point of the movie, completely over the top, mindless action, presented in an almost satirical manner. I mean they poke fun at pretty much every single action movie cliche. I thought it was quite funny.

KT

I understand. I wasn't entertained by it and you were. Hence the poll.

The poll is silly though, the 3 movies are so completely different, I was entertained by all 3 of them, but in different ways.

Bah, whatever, I'm out of here...

did into the wild romanticize that dumbfuck who went into the wild? if not, I might watch it. I enjoy movies which showcase Darwin making good work of stupid people

Read the Wikipedia page on the guy. Apparently he was always a couple of miles from being rescued, but because he went in without a compass or a map he died like a dumbass.

Yeah the movie was probably sympathetic to McCandless but i don't think it makes a hero of him or tries too. He was definitely impulsive and foolish. As one guy(in the Wiki article i linked too) characterized McCandless's decision to enter the Stampede Trail without map or campass as tantamount to suicide.

I assumed he used the bolt gun because it's used for killing cattle. This reinforces the portrayal of an unfeeling killer, who approaches all of his victims like livestock and disposes of them mechanically and swiftly, without malice.

Really. How many times have coins been flipped at slaughterhouses deciding the livestocks fate. Don't over intellectualize that crap.

Like someone else said, I think you really missed the depth of the movie.

I bet you also thought The Shining was about a guy who flipped out and tried to kill his family.

What makes you think i have seen The Shining? And i have no idea what it was about.

I never said you did, though most people have, so I picked it as an example of a movie with an all-too obvious subtext (just like No Country). If you didn't like it, that's cool, but it's pretty clear that there is a lot more going on in No Country than just a couple of guys, some money, and a bolt gun.

Shoot em up, No Country For Old Men, and Into The Wild.
I managed to get thru 2/3 of the movie before shutting it down. In fact i hit the stop button when Owen had the Senator by the throat on the plane and was holding the rest a bay. That movie was just not my type. Dirt!!

Some people will tell you NCFOM is about the Tommy Lee Jones character coming to grips with a changing world and his place in it or lack thereof. It isn't about that at all, but about the Bardeems character and his captive bolt gun which he uses to kill people and break the locks on various doors. Is there any other reason other than 'quirkiness factor' to have it in the movie? No there isn't. That is essentially the heart of the movie. Frankly, the movie is a bore.Dirt!!

Of the three Into The Wild i would say is the most entertaining. Into The Wild. There isn't anything special about his story i think other than the fact he died. I'm sure there are many similar stories. They just havn't been told. I don't want to get into his motives or whatnot just that i think this was the best of the 3.

I agree with you 100% Many.

Do you think the Sedgway scooter is a good idea? That's how i feel about Stephen King's good ideas for literature material.

LOL

yea if you look at the wiki entry he made incredibly moronic decisions.
not highlighted in the film of course.

Shoot'em up was one of the worst I've seen last year.

No Country for Old Men was good.

Into the Wild was a guy who had a problem with his parents and ran away from them. There was nothing special about the story. I thought it was an epiphany that sent him running, not his parents arguing and fighting.

I did not like shoot em up, not even sure if i finished it.

NCFOM and Into the Wild were two of my favorite movies from last year.
