There are 20 states with levels of illegal immigration comparable to Arizona's? Are these new laws REALLY solving a problem for all of these states, or just jumping on a bandwagon that it's hard to lose votes by supporting?

And for perhaps the millionth time, there are plenty of grounds for opposing Arizona's law that have nothing to do with being in favor of illegal immigration. To put it in terms I imagine most people in this thread would agree with, you can support fighting violent crime without supporting invasive gun control measures...right?

I've contacted my state senators and reps to urge them to introduce similar legislation here. If nothing else, it's a good way to smoke out all those who support illegal immigration but don't want to admit it. When they come out against the law, you can hold it over their heads and club them at the ballot box in November.

What grounds are there to oppose AZ's law other then the same tired crap which has been disapproved over and over again on these forums??? I'd really like to hear what legimate grounds are there to oppose AZ's law meant to deal with an issue the feds have ignored and brushed under the rug.

Oh and states shouldn't wait on until the level of violence and lawlessness reaches extreme heights to act. Taking an active role which AZ is doing (which includes going after businesses who employ illegals) is actually solving the problem. Your solution seems to be not taking any action at all because "its a big problem and we shouldn't deal with big problems".

Virginia has a bad problem with illegals and NONE of the politicians actually want to do anything about it. Some of the hardcore conservative politicians rant and rave against it but I know they will never actually do anything. The extreme left wants to give them even more free handouts than they already have.
So who do I vote for? The nutjobs who want even more of my tax dollars to go into taking away my jobs? Or the liars who will just let things slowly deteriorate even more?
And when I vote for third party they never win.
