Many AOL for Broadband Questions

I have someone using AOL 9.0 on a PPPoE broadband connection. They are using a Netgear WGR614 wireless router, which is what AOL recommended. The login for the PPPoE is the main AOL account login, which works fine. All the other AOL accounts can connect simultaneously, but I have other issues and questions.

1. While connected, just through the PPPoE and not through AOL software, Internet Explorer is so incredibly slow. It is slow to the point, where I would say it won't even load any web pages. Is this something AOL does? I can ping at a good rate and AOL's browser will work fine when I sign on through AOL, but Internet Explorer is dog slow.

2. I cannot log into https sites, using AOL's browser. Online banking, purchasing of airline tickets, or any https site just won't load. I can't really test in Internet Explorer either, because of the slowness. I don't know whether this is an issue just with AOL's software, with the router, or with both. I don't think it's a problem with the broadband connection by itself.

3. Currently I am using PPPoE to keep a constant connection to AOL so the other computers can log in at the same time. Can I have multiple accounts sign on with a DHCP connection as well or only one at a time?

Thanks in advance for reading this and for any help that can be provided.

1 and 2 would indicate, in my opinion, a problem with windows. Try running all your updates via windowsupdate.com or try reinstalling the os. Also what is the connection quality of the wireless connection?

3. I hope I am understanding your question corredtly... If you have your broadband connection connected to the wireless router then it is the router logging into the connection, via PPPOE not the computers. As such the ISP will only see the router and nothing connected to it i.e. your computers etc... You will definately be able to setup as many computers as you want as long as the router has the capacity to handle them.

It doesn't matter whether I am connected wirelessly or not. I have a hardwire to some of the computers. They still have the same problem with slow Internet Explorer, even though AOL is fast when it is signed on. The https sites, I believe this to be a problem with AOL only too, but I can't test it in IE because it is so slow. I am having this person install Mozilla Firefox to see if this is just a problem with IE.

As far as connecting multiple users, I am refering to AOL. In AOL you can create multiple accounts, but they are still under one main account. I know if you have dialup, even though you have multiple accounts, you can only sign on with one at a time. I don't know if you can sign on with multiple accounts via a broadband connection that is not using PPPoE with an AOL login.

I would imagine it would be the same with broadband as far as aol and the multiple connections go. Tho' I really cant say for sure. As far as firefox goes I would concur with your idea.

The thing is, I don't what makes the PPPoE connection different, where I can connect multiple accounts at once. I've emailed AOL, but I normally don't get the answer I'm looking for in the first 3 emails, so if anyone else still knows, I'd like to hear some answers.
