Manufacturer's Warranty

Hello all, I'm getting really close to getting an LCD for Christmas, in fact, i'm going to order very very soon, only one thing is holding me back, and that's the fear of dead pixels, and newegg.com's "8 OR MORE ONLY!" return policy. If the monitor carries a 3 year warranty from sony, will they replace it in the event of dead pixels?

SONY

🙁 Im so fearful of getting even one dead pixel, i'm putting some of my own money towards this, I don't want to get it and then be like ...... NOOO!

Well I just checked and found something very disturbing on MonitorsDirect website.

You are certainly safe buying ViewSonic, NEC, Samsung and Sony LCD monitors, but you shouldn?t assume that these big brands have the best warranty offerings. For example, a member of our team recently called Sony on behalf of a customer to ask them about their ?dead pixel policy.? (Dead pixels are small LCD cells that get locked in either an ?on? or ?off? position). While there can be almost 4 million such sells on a 17-inch LCD monitor, any one pixel can look like a spec of dust on the screen. Sony told us that they don?t have a dead pixel policy. In other words, Sony doesn?t consider dead pixels to be a defect and thus dead pixels are not covered under its warranty.

So you basically have Newegg's crappy 8 or more dead pixel policy.

Unless you're really set on this Sony, I still recommend you get that Dell UltraSharp 1704FPV for $242 shipped after 25% off LCD Dellf coupon and today's $35 off $325 stackable coupon. Dell has 100% Total Satisfaction guarantee and you can return the LCD to them within 30 days for any reason if you're not 100% happy.

that's why you buy a LCD from your area. Then you can check before buying. Otherwise sometimes just got to take a chance.

Good ideas guys, i'll just ask for cash this christmas, and go see for myself in a store I suppose, i'd much rather do that instead of worrying about recieving a dud.
