Manual-Transmission-vehicle Drivers?

Never have. I've only red-lined in an automatic I guess.

But that's a benefit of a manual, though...more control, less stress on the engine, more fuel efficient.

My suzuki redlines at 6250. The rev limter cuts in at 7500. I bounce off it like once a month.

I've redlined once in 20k miles - and that was just for the hell of it. I visit 4-5k on a daily basis, but that's just because my little 4cyl 108hp engine needs to hit that spot if I need to go quickly.

My usual shift point is just 3k rpms.

dont even go there. its only more fuel efficient if you drive it like it is, and with modern automatics, that isn't an argument anymore.

I usually upshift at 3.5-4K, sometimes going to 5K (out of 6.5K). With that kind of driving I think it would be more efficient than an auto gearbox that would normally take the car to 6K or so for most off-the-line upshifts.

Um - the most fuel efficient car in the US is a manual 😉 That said - I often skip gears to save gas - 2nd -> 5th when I can.

The only benefit of a manual for EVERY type of car accross the board is the anticipatory element that atuomatics will never have unless they can acutally consciously analyze traffic.

That said, in older cars, manuals CAN PROVE TO BE more efficient in many cases.

The truck I will be driving (1996 Toyota Tacoma, 122K miles) would probably throw a fit if I ran it to the redline. So no.

I've had my automatic (94 chevy astro conversion van) redline several times, I think it's a common issue with that particular model.

I used to redline when I first started driving sticks because I thought that was where you were supposed to shift. A new transmission later I found out I was wrong ::|

Hell, I don't even go that far...

I usally havea ceiling of 3K for most of my daily driving.....EXCLUDING the mountainous areas..

That is "me" time were me and my car explore its limits..😀....never redlining though...no need to...

Redlines are set for a reason - you won't be breaking things if you rev that high.

'98 Toyota Corolla, 160k miles. Redline almost daily..kinda have to if I want to move anywhere.. 😛

Running to redline isn't going to break the transmission. Not shifting properly, on the other hand...

I know, I realize it would probably hold up...but I don't want to take that chance. 😛

My jeep runs at around 3k to 3.2k on the highway, I redline it offroad sometimes on a climb or in the mud. Sometimes if i'm on a big onramp i'll run it up to about 4k but the powerband drops off pretty quick so it is kinda pointless. Redline is 5k

Not all the time but frequently. Not an ounce of protest from the engine but I have a 8yr/100k extended warranty just in case.

I don't think I push mine hard. It's too old for that. But I couldn't tell you at what RPM I shift. It doesn't have a tachometer.
