Manual fan control on an Inspiron 9400

We have a Dell Inspiron 9400 laptop with a Geforce Go 7800 GPU in it. There are two cooling fans, one for the CPU and one for the GPU, each with their own heatpipe, sink, and vent. We acquired a replacement fan, however, it still does not spin up at all. A motherboard replacement is undesirable at this time.

If there a way to enable manual fan control for the GPU? I've updated the Nvidia drives to the latest on Nvidia's website for the 7800 Go as of yesterday. I know of several utilities that can be used on desktop cards for manual fan control, but nothing for mobile variants. RivaTuner says mobile GPUs are not supported.

I suppose a laptop cooler mat would alleviate the problem but not resolve it.

You can try SpeedFan or Dell Inspiron/Latitude/Precision fan control utility.

Thanks for the links, I'm looking at them now. I'll see how they work when the client arrives this morning. Some people roll in late in the morning. 😉
