Manny Ramirez to LA Dodgers

ESPN is reporting that Manny has accepted a trade to the Florida Marlins. However there is no deal in place just yet as Manny had the option to veto any trade since he is a 10/5 guy. Guess we will hear more by 5pm EST.

Edit: ESPN is now reporting that Manny has been dealt to the Dodgers for Bay and a bunch of prospects.

Nothing official yet, but the rumor is Manny to Florida (with BOS picking up the rest of his contract for the year), Hermida + prospects (probably FLA prospects, maybe a BOS prospect too) to Pittsburgh, and Bay + Grabow to Boston.

They were talking about this on last night's Mets game. Manny is gonna get outta there after the season is done. No way is he staying in FLA.

All that's happened is Manny has agreed to waive his no trade clause, should a deal be made. But that is apparently 50/50 at best. The Marlins are asking for too much money, and a couple prospects, so it's dubious at best that he'll be traded.

Boston has a history of trading/releasing their stars - ie Pedro, Nomar. When everybody thought they were crazy that Nomar trade is what propelled them to win the series that year.

Manny has an option for next year at 20 million. Florida's payroll is something like 22 million right now. It is a club option so Florida could pick it up in hopes of getting enough interest so that they can get their new stadium.

Manny is a whiny whore. Watch him end up on Yankees next year like all the former Bosox money whores.

Doesn't look like Jr. is gonna get much play time, chisox outfield roster is stacked. Dye and Quentin's stats are sick, swisher's so-so. This should be interesting.

Then as soon as they get the new stadium, they'll trade Manny to someone else. 1997 world series aftermath 😉

Unfortunately, Manny has started to give up on the Sox b/c he wants a new contract and is trying to force the Sox to send him some place where he can become a free agent at the end of the year.

If it's only Manny that Boston gives-up, it's probably the best deal that can get out of this bad situation. It would be worse if Manny isn't traded and then proceeds to give up on the Sox for the rest of the season.

He'll get Center and DH time aplenty. Nick Swisher and Konerko will split time most likely.

Heard on the radio that the deal is dead. The Marlins wanted Ramirez, two prospects and money in excess of Ramirez's remaining contract for this year. Sheesh. Talk about greedy.

Yep just heard that as well. I just dont understand - this deal makes more sense for the Marlins then any other team involved.

Take Manny and hope he gets the Marlins in the playoffs and generate some interest. Use that excitement and try to get that stadium built. After the season is over pick up the 20 mil option and then deal him to a team next year like they did with Piazza back in the day.

I wanted to see this happen as well as it would weaken the Sox's lineup and get Manny away from destroying the Yankees every single series.

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

stupid stupid stupid. What manny does isn't even that bad. So he sits out occasionally, big deal, he's played more than any other Sock outside of Pedroia this year. He's going to put up 120 RBIs, hit 30 homeruns, and bat 300. You DON'T trade that. It's not like he's violently malicious. He says quirky stuff and whines sometimes. The sox always do this type of thing where they try to paint someone they're trying to trade as being bad for the sox.

Plus if they trade Manny you can forget about Ortiz EVER seeing a pitch to hit ever again. No one ever mentions this but part of the reason ortiz can do what he does is because pitchers know that right behind him is an RBI machine. Get rid of that and Ortiz may end up getting walked roughly 400 times in a season.

Rumor has it that it's contingent on the Marlins not picking up his options. Manny Ramirez wants to be a free agent, not be stuck with two team option years. He wants some team to give him $100 million over four years as he approaches 40.

I'm kind of glad that they aren't going to trade him. Ramirez, $9million in cash and two prospects for essentially just Jason Bay is stupid.
