Manny Ramirez positive for PED! - out 50 games

Latest I just heard on PTI was that it's a women's fertility drug that you take once you're coming off a steroid cycle.

It doesn't matter if it was a PED or anything anymore, any drug you take you should have checked 18x to see if it's banned or not. I have zero sympathy for him or anyone that gets suspended.

Eh, it really might not be roids if that source is correct.

It would be a shame if a legally prescribed substance that doesnt give an advantage caused someone to be banned.

This has happened, iirc.

A lot of sinus medications, inhalants especially, are steroids. I remember several players testing positive b/c of related medications and enduring a ban when MLB first implemented the new policy.

MLB has a list of safe and non-safe drugs. If you take something that is banned then you broke the rules and will have to face it. The union and the players know this.

Looking at Manny's letter to the fans, he seems to be understanding.

For his sake, I hope it wasn't a true PED and just something for health concerns, so he doesn't appear to be as much of an idiot (you use PEDs, you're going to get caught eventually). He accepts the fact that although his doctor didn't believe it to be a career problem, it was on the list and he admits he should have been smarter and recognized that.

Well J.C. Romero kind of got screwed though it was not prescribed.

I don't really follow baseball, but I do follow the steroid controversy in baseball for some reason. 😕

KT

from what the ESPN vid is saying this is also basicially one of those issues its not Manny "juicing" he just got boned because of the policy

Umm he didn't get boned, he used a banned substance (clearly stated as such) frequently used by roiders.

I never liked that guy....

this.

Manny's a brilliant hitter, truly gifted. So was Bonds. But as people, they're both big babies who think consequences don't apply to them.

I think there's too much pressure to look "huge". If a player is small (like Tim Lincecum) for some reason they don't think he's as good as bigger pitchers (even though he is 😛). For some reason people associate skill with size.

I think you have to be super naive to think Manny wrote that word for word all by himself.

Yeah there weren't any "Mangs" in it so you know he didn't write it.

HCG is common for post-cycle therapy. Depending on what steroids you did and how long you did them, your balls may have decided they can go on permanent vacation. Once you've stopped the steroids, you're left with low testosterone, low energy, depressed, no sex drive, etc. HCG kicks your balls back into gear.

It looks mighty suspicious. Leave it to Manny to be the first one busted for this.

dude is a beast. Would you actually be surprised if it was discovered that he was juicing? I sure as shit wouldn't.

Palmeiro, Tejada....I think very few people saw those coming.

Yes i would be surprised because he never doubled in mass over an off season....he was always a monster from day 1 and his production was steady from 1991 on.

With all the coverage of the effect of steroid and HGH use, there are people that still assume significantly increased muscle size to be a prerequisite? Wow.

yeah, its just a coincidence that all these guys gained 70lbs and went from 10-15 hr seasons to 40+, had mediocre pitching careers and then exploded for 1-2 years. Yep, I have no clue what I'm talking about. Read much?

Baseball has been in the shitter for me for about a decade now. They need to test every single member of each team's roster, weekly.

i say let them all dope up, anything that can make the game watchable (for me, i say give them meth and shotguns, but whatever)

You're naive if you think anybody is above scrutiny, even Frank Thomas.

The people i scrutinize were mediocre players who somehow managed to have monster years for 1-3 seasons and then were never heard from again or drastically declined/got hurt. So unless The Hurt was juicing for 20 years from college all the way to 2008 without ever getting caught or even accused of then I'd be stunned.

That's what people said about A-Rod until he got caught.

I got a chuckle. All the drama of signing him and now this.....

Will he still get paid during this time?
