I don't think you can get more evidence than this case as to how our college campuses are being run by liberal ideology and that they're forcing this upon their students. This liberal professor insists (incorrectly) that mankind does not refer to everyone and insists her student use the word humanity instead:

“I would be negligent, as a professor who is running a class about the human condition and the assumptions we make about being ‘human,’ if I did not also raise this issue of gendered language and ask my students to respect the need for gender-neutral language,” Scott explained. “The words we use matter very much, or else teachers would not be making an issue of this at all, and the MLA would not be making recommendations for gender-neutral language at the national level.”

Scott then offered to let Jeffers revise the paper to earn additional points in five categories, including diction, but noted that she is under no obligation to do so.

“I will respect your choice to leave your diction choices ‘as is’ and to make whatever political and linguistic statement you want to make by doing so,” the professor wrote. “By the same token, I will still need to subtract a point because your choice will not be made in the letter or spirit of this particular class, which is all about having you and other students looking beneath your assumptions and understanding that ‘mankind’ does not mean ‘all people’ to all people. It positively does not.”

This is the first definition straight from Webster's:

the human race : the totality of human beings

Probably defined back when women were not considered full human beings.

20 years ago I had a super feminazi teaching sociology. She did the same shit. She was balanced out by some badass old professor of mine that taught literature and had the love child of Ernest Hemmingway and Hunter Thompson as his spirit animal. That's how college goes and isn't some ultra liberal mindbend that you proclaim it is.

An English major heh? Does it really matter that his grade got docked? The only position that diploma qualifies you for is minimum wage. For minimum wage positions, college GPAs in useless majors don't really matter.

It is my considered opinion after long applied thought and in consultation with others, I have come to the conclusion that no matter where you go, no matter the economic, educational or dominant ideology, someone just has to be a dick.

Not entirely true. My closest friend was an English Major and makes more money than she probably deserves. But... her arrogance and audacity got her the well paying jobs she has had over the years as well as networking in a heavily populated Oil & Gas Industry location... Not her qualifications.

Yeah, and depending on the person the definition of marriage changes too. I'm sure in this class someone would get marked down if they said it was a union between a man a woman instead of between two people/spouses which is a more modern interpretation.

exactly. republican snowflakes cling to the fewest remaining pearls as they watch their ideology be consistently stomped out by reality.

I think the issue is not the word and whether it is sexist. Changing your word choices does nothing to address actual biases you may hold. In fact, I find such compelled speech a direct threat to actually productively addressing sexism (etc.) in society.

So, "mankind" is unkind?

Actually, I suppose that's too often true.

And somehow keep winning election after election after election.

yup. when you have to gerrymander yourself to power, it works well. But you are probably not curious why you can win 70% of national office with only 40% of votes, right? Of course this is not interesting to you.

I just checked and the students can withdraw and sign up for GOP school any time, no restrictions.
