it's definitely the start of decriminalization. in progressive states. this ain't gonna fly with the bible belting lunatics of the GQP base.

they'd prefer a world more like the Handmaid's Tale.

The next step is to tax the service, service providers and the clients. Bam, help make up for the lost COVID revenue.

I would hope it would be to take traffickers/pimps completely out of the game and have 100% of the profits go to the service providers themselves.

No good reason it should not be fully legal with the proper safeguards.

Too many elected republican pederasts on their docket right now. Just isn't room to deal with petty prostitution.

Prostitution will always, always be a problem, and not because it's immoral, but because of the incredible amounts of unaccountable, untaxable money it can generate. People who make laws dont give a fuck about "morality", they are worried about more practical aspects of keeping power.
See, if you get the same amount of money from a "legitimate" business, then you have something to lose. You don't want to lose your dentist license, your factory, your prestigious office. But a hooker doesn't have any of these things to lose. And people in power know that when people have access to a "free" flow of money, bad shit happens.

A good escort can make a couple thousand bucks PER DAY. Nothing super-fancy, no "escort to the stars" situation, just a young girl with a fit bod and who isn't completely braindead or on drugs. And this isn't a working-to-the-bone scenario, either. A handful of clients per day.
And this cash comes without needing to pay machine software upgrades, licenses, rent on your yoga studio, workers wages, and yeah, no tax. Or some tax, but seriously HOW are you going to know, when it all takes place behind closed doors.

This money piles up pretty quickly and that's when people start trying to "invest" it. And that's how you get crime. I'm not saying it always happens, but you got five thousand hookers in a city, a few of those will get weird ideas.

It's the same reason they hate crypto, VPNs, online trading, any form of profit that does not come with a social burden is seen as dangerous.

crypto is literally a waste of energy to produce absolutely nothing.

prostitution will only be a problem insofar as it's maintained as being illegal. same problem as drugs and alcohol prohibition before that.

regulate it, tax it, and let people have their fun. then crime largely goes away. sure, organized crime still exists, but is it to the same extent as in the height of prohibition? why risk having the man breathing down your neck when you can make a killing legally by operating casinos and resorts instead?

That’s my concern as well. If a woman wants to sell her body then I’m ok with that, but it’s the forced prostitution/sex trafficking that I am concerned about. Maybe sex workers should be registered.

∆This. I can't believe it took as many posts as it did for someone to mention this. Do people really think all these hookers just love what they do but can't stand that they have to give some of their hard day's work to a pimp? I am fine with the freelance prostitution and making it legal but they better clean up the trafficked girls (and boys).

The war on prostitution has gone as well as the war on drugs.

Like the WoD - the low person on the totem pole suffers most. The issue is war on prostitutes vs prostitution as a whole. Personally I don’t care how a person choses to use their body. The criminal action is when personal agency is lost.

After weed, prostitution should be the next thing that is federally legalized and taxed.

Selling sex via goods = a-okay.

But selling sex itself is wrong? Fuck off with that stupidity. Just other stupid moralities and religion that made their way into the politics of most countries.

Isn't that the same thing as illegal drugs? If they were legalized then they would go to an established and legal route. Same argument against war on drugs.

Especially since the legal route would likely have requirements around STD testing, whereas illegal is a fun risk to take everytime.

Legal weed, legal gambling, legal prostitution. I'm going to need another job.

Except the war on drugs heavily focuses on the customer, while the war on prostitution has heavily focused on the provider. What do those have in common? They are the under privileged side of the transaction.

I've known multiple Hookers through my best friend's wife, none of them are making anywhere near a grand a day. I'm sure there are some high end escorts that make good money or have a sugar daddy situation, but most women working the street make shit money.
