yeah, it's funny how anime prices get cut in half when they get translated and brought over here, but manga prices double. heh.

Tentacles were essentially the only solution for Japanese -- the government banned any display of genitalia while allowing everything else (including any fetish, rape, etc.). So what were they to do?

How bout not worring about having to fill their cartoons with sex? And how fvcking bizarre is it that tentacles raping prepubescent teens is considered normal in their cartoons, but the display of genitals is not allowed. :p

And WHO would watch that sh!t??!?!

how is it normal? it's as normal as having porn broadcasted to your north american tv set.

edit: read that wrong. Yes, porn is normal over here, and honestly quite a bit of it gets broadcast onto my tv set. No, tentacle raping prepubescent teenage girls is not (that I know of).

Pick up Dark Horse's Akira, probably the best "Graphic Novel" ever produced, manga or otherwise.

video games > manga?

in my opinion... video games contributes as much to a person's intellect as manga does.

in a video game, the kids think how to win. for the manga, it is just some nice drawing and a good story.

Because people buy it.

Cmon with the showing of pokemon, yugi-oh, and all the other card battle cartoons in addition to the anime on like cartoon network you would think they would want to cash in?

Or maybe kids juke their parents into thinking they are "reading" :)

Or maybe you're just too blinded by American Marketing :p. I don't buy manga, but I do watch anime, and I am astounded at the trash that the media attempts to put out there as representative of japanese cartoons.

Unfortunately, most of the manga I have seen sold are not pokemon, yugioh or any other card battle cartoons - those are just the crap that's on TV >_>.

But honestly, manga is overpriced and worthless, just download it :p. (Manga is like the American Comics ie Marvel and etc.).

You realize books are the same thing..just without the nice drawing..

If you don't include TPBs in the "Graphic Novel" category, then maybe. If you do, then NOT EVEN CLOSE.

I truly hope you don't mean me. I don't mind it being there, but not at the expense of much better graphic novels and TPBs.

While I don't think video games are bad by any stretch of the imagination (when played in moderation yadda yadda yadda), reading stimulates the brain more than most other activities. If I ever have kids, they will be encouraged to read comics if that is something they want to do.

elaborate?

edit: sarcasm?

Yeah... I was trying to think if the tongue icon or the wink icon would give off the 'sarcasm' aura more.

Tentacle rape has always been popular, but it wasn't replacing actual literature in the past. I'm hoping this is a seasonal thing.

"Give the gift of tentacle rape this christmas!"

Those wacky Japanese could make a hell of a Nativity scene!

Ah, tentacle rape. I've found what I believe to be the oldest recorded tentacle rape scene in Japanese history, no lie. You can view it here: http://www.ikonomi.com/images/octo.jpg

It was in an art book. I guess it has always been popular.

haha, I have that book. my buddies got it for me for my bday. it's call Jinga. some weird Japanese sex book, kinda like kamasutra or something.

I'm all about kids reading that trash. They're reading, that's important. But this should not come at the expense of actual quality work.

I guess this area is flooding with Asians. Maybe it's a race with the latinos to see who becomes the majority next.

lol, I like this one Nc0monkey. Are you one of these white folks who start moving out when the neighborhood is no longer predominately white?

actually most english manga is read by white people, makes sense doesn't it?

our company just started publishing manga recently. we get the stories from japan and they are translated into english and published backwards in black and white.

suprisingly, this stuff is selling extremely well, even though its not "authentic" manga.
its just stories translated into english.
