I was at the bookstore the other day, looking for a particular popular Trade Paper Back to show someone the cover art. There were HUNDREDS of stupid little manga books, and a meager 3 shelves of TPBs. Of course they didn't have the one I was looking for. WTF? When did this trash become so popular?

Because people buy it.

Cmon with the showing of pokemon, yugi-oh, and all the other card battle cartoons in addition to the anime on like cartoon network you would think they would want to cash in?

Or maybe kids juke their parents into thinking they are "reading" :)

I'm all about kids reading that trash. They're reading, that's important. But this should not come at the expense of actual quality work.

I guess this area is flooding with Asians. Maybe it's a race with the latinos to see who becomes the majority next.

I'm ready for it to go so I can get easy access to literature again.

Tentacle rape has always been popular, but it wasn't replacing actual literature in the past. I'm hoping this is a seasonal thing.

"Give the gift of tentacle rape this christmas!"

Those wacky Japanese could make a hell of a Nativity scene!

Well it probably makes the bookshop more money at the moment then those trade paper back books. OR the publishers were pushing the books hard for sale.

And that's fine. I don't think the bookstore should get rid of them at all, no matter how much I despise the little things. ;)

I bought two TPBs while I was there, which was 2 more than I was planning on buying. I managed to buy 0 Manga books (I think the spines on some of those are on the wrong side, the printer should be fired). :)

Ah, tentacle rape. I've found what I believe to be the oldest recorded tentacle rape scene in Japanese history, no lie. You can view it here: http://www.ikonomi.com/images/octo.jpg

Why stop at manga? Just tell Marvel and DC Comics to shut down their trashy business. :p

manga is not worth reading for kids. how much do the kid get out from reading manga? how to draw something fancy? I would rather have my kids to read some read books or play video game than reading manga.

video games > manga?

in my opinion... video games contributes as much to a person's intellect as manga does.

Tentacles were essentially the only solution for Japanese -- the government banned any display of genitalia while allowing everything else (including any fetish, rape, etc.). So what were they to do?

How bout not worring about having to fill their cartoons with sex? And how fvcking bizarre is it that tentacles raping prepubescent teens is considered normal in their cartoons, but the display of genitals is not allowed. :p

And WHO would watch that sh!t??!?!

Their cartoons are filled with sex simply because of their sexually repressed society. Sex exists. It must be embraced one way or another. They just found a rather hillarious medium for it (meanwhile we Americans just let it all hang out)
