Looks like Mandrake might be going through a reconstruction soon.

The Reg article

Hope things turn out ok, Im no Mandrake user, but the little time I've spent with it has been pretty positive, and it's a good newbie distro.

Yes, it is a sad thing that such a popular distro has to die, but rest assure that the talent will not die with the company. They will find new projects/companies to work for, perhaps RH will pickup the majority of the displace Mandrake brains/people.

I'm sure that Linux will be at a better position vs. MS once the consolidation compleate in the Linux world.

I personally still waiting for the Debian Desktop Project to compleate & rise to take place of lost/un-manage distros.

I;m surprised they lasted this long. How can one make a company around something that is essentially freeware? I know the Business side pays but I still don't see how.

Great product though, I'd hate to see them go..

What's really sad is that they are virtually begging customers to sign up for "Mandrake Club" so they could stay in business. You KNOW that you're company is screwed when they start asking for donations!

Almost a year ago they did.. They have a very different business plan though. Its directed way more at "paying" costumers..

RH is really doing the Linux community a favor by going after corporate customers.......that IS where the money is
