Mandrake Linux Internet "Stalling"

After installing Linux Mandrake 7.2, the internet connection keeps stalling, stopping me from downloading large files and browsing the web. Is there any way to fix this problem? I don't have this problem in Win98. Thanks

EDIT: I am on the network at Virginia Tech on a Linksys 10/100 network card. Thanks again.
 
I'm running a fresh install of Mandrake, so I haven't had the chance to mess around with anything. I'm fairly new to Linux so I couldn't tell you if its MASQ'ing or the timeouts are wrong.
