Mandrake Linux 8.0 Standard Edition

Just got this in the post. Planning to clean all the garbage off of my "spare" pc and chuck this on it. Any tips/advice/etc? Anything I should know that won't be mentioned in the manual? Stuff I should download before, rather than after, the install? Etc etc.

PS never used linux before in my life...

i'm in your boat. Trying to learn a little. I just had a prob with mandrake not recognizing my network card. i couldnt get it to work. :(

Agreed w/ yakko. I think Mandrake was alomst easier than Windows. It looks prettier and you can change the colors of the install interface! :)

The hardest part of the install is partitioning off your /, /usr, and /home directories, but it even tells you how to go about doing this in the install notes so there should be no problems whatsoever. Also no fumbling around trying to find the serial on the jewel case :)

I have used slackware 8 and mandrake 8 and I think mandrake is the linux distro that is closest to Windows in terms of interface and such. Maybe it's just me. Definitely a great beginner linux distro.
