MANDRAKE 9.0 HAS BEEN RELEASED!!!!!!!!!!

Right now I'm downloading it; the servers are getting hammered, though. My T-1 line is grabbing me about 30kB/sec

Anyone seen the HCL (hardware compatibility list) for 'Drake 9.0? The list on their site only goes up to 8.2, and I'm curious about Audigy support...

I actually found some decent mirrors last night and got all 3 images, I am going to install it this AM on my laptop, I will reply back with my opinion (for what it's worth). Boy there are a lot of new distros I am looking forward to trying that are coming out all of a sudden, Mandrake 9, Redhat 8, SuSe 8.1, Xandros, Lycoris build ?? and United Linux, my linux box will be busy with these the next couple weeks.

Wow, so far I like, it has changed quite a bit since the last RC I tried, I like the way everyhting is layed out, the menus make everything nice and easy to find, also the Control Center is great kinda like the YAST in SuSE, very easy to use. The only problems I seem to be having right off the bat are that that I can't seem to get the sound configured even though my soundcard "says" it is configured correctly. So far I am impressed and this distro will take the place of my former favorite SuSE 8.

Which one is better?
Mandrake or RedHat?

Which is better? Red or blue? I think "which is better" depends on your personal preferences. I like Mandrake because the installs have in the past gone better for me than the Redhat ones wrt. hardware detection. I also like some of the Mandrake programs like DiskDrak, etc. I like Red Hat for the typical cleanliness of the interface, the upgrade checking utility and the fact that they don't load everything but the kitchen sink in by default (my primary complaint with previous Mandrake versions). I am using RedHat 7.2 right now, but I'll definitely make a copy and then install Mandrake 9 over the weekend and choose between them.

Well, I am not happy with it so far...no matter what I do, my mouse will not work under 9.0. It's a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (cordless), and the pointer will not move in any direction but up or down. This mouse works under (literally) every other distro I have tried since its release, and it's pretty standard; I can't really comment on anything else, because I can't really do anything in the GUI without a functioning pointing device.:|

Sounds like it's time to boot in runlevel 3 (if that's what Mandrake uses for text mode without X), and do the "XFree86 -configure" thing as root. Then, jump in and tweak the resultant XF86Config file a bit with vi, and finally copy it over your current /etc/X11/XF86Config-4. :-D

I really have to say that Mandrake 9.0 is the best Desktop Distro I've seen. My TV card worked out of the box, I only had to install the Nvidia drivers for my custom resolutions, Sound Card was auto-detected, Evolution is an awesome mail client. What I would maybe change is the "K"-Menu (when you press the K instead of the Start button in Windows), how they sorted it, but otherwise, for someone who doesn't play games and only needs to do some business work, I think it's the perfect Distribution. Big up to the guys @ Mandrake!
