I have audio working but it's awfully muted. Can someone tell me how to control the volume on Mandrake 8.2? Actually even how to configure audio at all would be helpful.

*bump* I figured someone on here would know how to change the output sound volume on Mandrake. I am guessing it's just hidden in some menu somewhere.

No one knows?

What exactly do you want to configure with audio? Did you try KDE control panel ?

Try aumix for volume control. It allows you to do a lot of other stuff too.

EDIT: There is also Kmix, that will stay as small icon - for volume control only.

Ah. I'm in Gnome, but I should be able to find those (writing from within Windows). I guess I was thinking it would be in the Gnome control panel, or some <insert name> + "drake" thing. Thanks for the tip.

EHobaX, that's what I'd tried to do. I'd max'd out the one in XMMS.

I figured out the problem, but I'm almost ashamed to admit it. Apparently the volume knob on my headphones was set really low and I didn't notice. So I was maxing out everything and it was still really quiet. Since I had just installed Mandrake, I was guessing that the problem was within Linux... not the headphones themselves.

Thanks for the responses. And I looked at ALSA and it looks pretty impressive. I may try it out.
