It had to happen the first night I come over to these boards. 🙂
I guess I know which distribution I'm going with
It's been released for about 3 hours now

So?!??
Ok, one more version... Is there a reason why one should start running to install it??

Don't take me wrong, but there's no valid reason to install each new version of an OS that is released....
Linux is not windows... even if it where I still use NT for most stuff.....

Yes, actually. I am just getting started with linux (I don't have an install). I was debating between redhat 7.2 or Mandrake 8.1. Mandrake has an easier interface (for n00bs like me) while redhat had more up to date packages. I reluctantly chose redhat, started downloading it, and the surfed over to slashdot. There was a big story there about the newest version of mandrake just being released with everything mostly up to date. Hooray! I get my cake and eat it too.

So 😛
😉😀

I am assuming that this is the "final" version of 8.2? I had 8.2 beta and it did not like to play nicely with my GeForce3 Ti200 vid card. Anyone installing/running 8.2 successfully with this card, please let me know. 🙂

If you get your cake in the first place there should be no reason you cant eat it too. On the other hand, if you eat your cake there is a good reason you cant have it then. So it isnt a big deal to say it the way you have said this cliche,b ut if you switch it around, I can get my cake and have it too, it is special because you have eaten it but still have it. 😛

Oh yeah, hooray or something. New versions are good.

Hey d00d! 😀
I didn't read any stories..but I saw LOTSA it on www.mandrakelinux.com anyway, they're all friggin' pumped up about it 😀

anyway, if you're going to install 8.1 OR 8.2 for THAT matter...do you have a MS partition? b/c lastnight Mandrake 8.1 DID NOT play nicely w/ my XP prof. install! It was VERY VERY naughty, and that was PROBABLY, MOSTLY my own fault for being DUMB and switching from RH7.2 @ least RH was right @ my level of understanding mandrake made things sooooooooo easy...that I couldn't tell what it was taling about...It's like TurboTax...it just asks you these piddlly Y/N questions and you don't know what answering Yes or NO is going to do to your system. I would recommend going w/ the GUI "exper" interface. b/c it's not by ANYMEANS EXPERT. I'm a friggin' N00B and I had noooooooooo problems w/ it 🙂

GL Cow... and anyone else puttin' Mandrake on! 😀

God Bless

Tanner

Nice thing about Mandrake 8.2 is that you can do a minimal install of only 65 MB.

Not that you can't do this with Slackware/Debian/LFS etc., but it's still nice 😛

Now I remember what reason I had to try this Drake 8.2 version....

And new versions aren't always good... let's not forget the x.0 versions of some distros!! 😀

FTP servers are swamped for this. If you want it, I would recommend waiting a few days and then comming back later.

Yeah it's annoying that everyone gets this cliche wrong. You're one of the few people I've seen point it out.

Im a prick, its what I do.

So now the question is: When will compUSA have Mandrake 8.1 for $0.01? I always miss it when they do stuff like that.

Somehow it won't install in my system. Before I do anything else, I just need to be sure that I downloaded the final version. Is the final version code named 'Bluebird' and dated March 16, 2002?
