hey,
what are your guys opinions about 8.0? do you guys feel that it is worth upgrading from 7.2?

what do you mean by more success? i have an extra box running redhat right now but i thought i would try mandrake but i dunno what version to try.

Been running 7.2 for some time now, I can't imagine anything that 8.0 has that would urge me to bother...

A nice thing about 8.0 is that it now will do "statefull packet inspection" when configured as a firewall/router (only then). But then again, this is because of the new Kernal, not necessarily 8.0.

I like 8.0 quite a bit more. The installation is even cleaner, and the default web browser is Mozilla (which works very nicely!). Give it a try!

one of the reasons i dont use linux more is because its really not a desktop OS imho. i set it up for routing and serving and then i never touch it again basically. sure someone people say thats the beauty of linux. you have to know what youre doing and be willing to get your hands dirty working with it. me...im lazy and i want everything put in front of me, power or not. does mandrake 8.0 do a better job of making linux more user friendly?

Just run the workstation install, and you've got a decent little computer. It has an auto-login option so you don't need to know about passwords (very neat and easy). Also, KOffice is there.. and it tries to help with a printer. It's very close to being good enough as a cheap desktop.

hehe, im not THAT lazy. i would want my login and such. its just that it seems like whenever i get into linux theres nothing really i want to do in the OS. its nothing more than my networking box.

I'm gonna install MDK 8.0 just to try it out.
I liked 7.2. I've got a new machine with an ATI Radeon vid card. I want to see if XFree will pick it up and configure the server right. If not I'll head over to DRI and get their driver. The 2.4.x kernel is nice too. No having to check lib dependencies to go from 7.2's 2.2.19 to 8.0's 2.4.x.
