hi im probably the biggest noob out here when it comes to linux. i recently installed windows xp pro, on hdb and installed mandrakelinux 10.1 on hda. when i boot i can choose from lunux, 2 other forms of linux, and windows. when i choose linux it brings me to my cli, and i login as root. from there i can startx or w.e - so taht works jsut fine. but when i try to start windows from taht boot menu i get this:

error 0X07
Boot: windows

here is my lilo.conf

other=/dev/hdb0
label="windows"
table=/dev/hdb
map-drive=0X80
to=0X81
map-drive=0X81
to=0X80

so basically i cant figure out why windows wont boot. i have the windows ntfs partition on hdb, and i have the linux partitions on hda. please help me figure this one out.

The problem is that you need to make windows your install on hda and your linux on hdb. That is all.

well then how in the world do i set these jumpers, because it wants to install windows on the master, which is b before i switched them, and linux had a 07 07 07 07 07 07 problem as long as windows was on hda. so i install windows on hada = primary master dirve, and set the other hdb to slave? and linux gives 07 07 07 07 on boot. any ideas?

I would that you make windows the master drive, then re-install Linux and ensure that you install under "expert" mode and select hdb as the Linux installation destination, this should work......

If that fails then visit HOBBES @ http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/ Don't worry that this is an OS/2 site, this tool is a multi-platform boot programme

In "quick search" type "air-boot" (no " ")
Leave the "quick browse" at /pub

Select the latest version and language(currently v1.4), and read the readme, you will need to make a bootable 3.5" floppy - this is because the boot manager is "TOTALLY" independant of any Operating System. Once installed you can add the OS partitions you desire.

The readme contains some interesting pointers as to why people have problems with dual-booting with Windoze OS' installed
