Mandatory to slow down if there's an accident on the other side of freeway

Unless the accident happened near the barrier or crossed over both sides, I don't see why people have to slow down/stop on the opposite side of the accident.

It's called rubber-necking. Most people have a sick desire to see the outcome of an accident.

Because they're idiots. :| God I hate it when people do that.

Once the first car slows down to look everybody behind him has to slow down also. We need to develop a way to determine who the people causing the slow downs are and put big stickers on their cars that say they are not allowed to drive on the interstate. Something like the big orange stickers they put on the cars of people with no insurance would be good. This also goes for people who stop on the speed up ramp.

Don't let me start. We have so much dumb drivers and rubberneckers around here and it is getting out of hand.

Preferably over the whole windshield, and when they're near a cliff.

If I see someone driving and their head tilts toward the accident i honk my horn. Usually scares the you know what out of them and they speed off.

I think it was in europe somewheer they put up dividers so you can;t see the accidnet.

I once saw a guy stop right across the accident and stuck his head out the window to see what happened. Even when he drove off he was still looking back over his shoulder and rear view mirror.

The curiosity factor makes people stupid.

Get a shed with smoke coming out of it and a loud ticking noise, along with a sign saying "BOMB IN HERE, TODAY ONLY!". Marvel at how a crowd will gather around it.

I always slow down somewhat. You never know when emergency vehicles or crew might be entering traffic or turning around. There could be debris in the roadway, etc.

Not here. There are 3' tall concrete barriers that divide almost all the freeways here. There is absolutely no reason at all for traffic going the other direction to slow down.

Absolutely.

I was driving home last week in the dark.
Only car traveling in my direction.
Country highway; max speed is 60.
I was running at 63 mph on cruise.
Slight rise to the road and a gentle right hand curve.
I crest and see 2 cars pulled over on the opposite shoulder.
I immediately cancel cruise and start to move to cross the fog line.
As I reach the cars pulled over, a deer carcass looms in my headlights.

I only missed COMPLETELY wacking it full force with my car because I had slowed down and was ready to react.

You do not have to slow down for emergency vehicles coming the opposite direction if there's a concrete barrier. Granted the ambulance/firetruck/squad car is in a hurry to get to where they are going, but they arent about to drive over a huge barrier and drive against traffic to get there.

I've learned to just go with the flow. If we're all going 4 MPH anyway, hell, might as well take a look myself. Sometimes, there's some amazing destruction. More than once, I've seen a DOA.
