Since the movie involved politics and required tin-foil I figured I'd ask people here what they thought of it.:D

I thought it was a good movie although it was your typical tin-foil conspiracy flick. I mean come on...chip implants, rogue scientists, and political conspiracy to gain power via mind control of a few people?

I mean sure I can believe corrupt politicians but this whole rogue scientist bit with the corporate domination sends the movie over the top.

I've heard it's supposed to be anti-Republican or some BS but unless they are trying to subtly link this to Haliburton I don't think they succeeded. Pretty lame if you ask me.
However the plot line was alright except for a few loose ends and some places where they put too much emotional stock into something they didn't flush out.

Oh well - what's your take on it?

I haven't seen it yet, don't think I will till I can get it on Netflix. But I will say this. You probably would have enjoyed it more had your mind not been so intwine with trying to see the rumors it's anti-Republican.

I heard the same thing about it being anti republican, but I'm not so sure about that. I thought it was going to be political, but it was more sci-fi to me. I guess you could say that Bush is the "manchurian candidate" since he's a puppet, but that would be stretching it. It was an ok movie. Denzel and Meryl Streep did a good job, as always.

I haven't seen the new movie, but I've seen the old one and read the book. Both were pretty good I thought (no chips in those). It is also interesting that the CIA had a fit over this idea (considering the brainwashing during the Korean Conflict) and spent many years trying to develop a technique like in the book. They experimented with LSD, electro-shock, and various other methods. They dropped a lot of time and money in research (much of it actually illegal....CIA ran a whorehouse in California, having prostitutes giving LSD to johns, rooms bugged for sound and video) for several years before finally giving up. Can't remember who at the moment, but a guy wrote a whole book about all the CIA experiments.

I didn't know about that until afterwards. Nice try though. Next...

I didn't really see it as being anti-Republican either...I didn't really like this version much either.

You do realize that it's a remake of a 1960s movie, right?

Anti-Halliburton? Nah. Anti-Carlyle Group, maybe. Average Joe on the street doesn't know much about them, though.

Denzel and Meryl did play their roles well, but the movie didn't blow me away.

Yes, I knew it was a remake. I have not seen the original however. I'd like to get ahold of a copy someday and compare.

I wasn't trying to insult or anything, I was just under the impression since you made that comment that you were looking for those little occurences that might prove or disprove it.

Ah, I see. No i wasn't looking, and actually I did enjoy it as I said it was a good movie. 'The Village' was NOT a good movie and a waste of my time and $ this weekend. My wife said it was supposed to be good but we both left feeling let down by it. But that's a different movie review;)

The orginal was at least 40X better.

Denzel pissed me off, as usual, with his angry black man routine, and even more when he said on charlie rose show HE HAD'NT SEEN THE ORGINAL!!

That's like a five star chef only eating TV dinners!@!!

I've heard that Streep hasn't seen the original either.

Almost like they don't even value thier art form. At least give a little hommage to a remake you're in.:disgust:

I'm a great fan of science fiction and "tin foil hat" conpiracy plots so yes, I'll probably see it :)

Its a good strategy for the dems, IMO, to let hollywood be involved in the campaign.

Denzel chose not to see it so there would be no outside influence in his portrayal of the character. Remakes these days don't usually clone the original but try to take on a life of their own, so it makes sense that a very good actor would want to go in clean.

movie was too predictable. Actually from the previews you can sort of predict what was going to happen.

Lot of jabs at Bush in the movie. Unilateralism, pre-emption. Things such as the Indonesia incursion, threat levels, terror alerts, bombings mentioned in the news in the background. Or Manchurian global hiring mercenaries to replace troops on the front line, that will save the US money.

The whole sci-fi part was dumb too. Drilling into the brain, inserting an implant deep into the brain? things that exist that aren't supposed too? a tracking device in the back of his shoulder that he didn't notice for 13 years except now he does? BLAH!

I found it lacked suspense for a political thriller
I preferred something like 'No Way Out' with Costner cause I was quite anxious many times during the film.
