Employees are not liable for that kind of stuff.

Correct.

Why would you say this? I know that all my co workers that have been missing money from their bank had to pay off their pockets. I think they might have made us sign papers saying we are liable for money missing from our banks when we first started working here.

Then why don't you go read those papers and tell us what they say. They will answer all your questions.

Youre not liable just because they want you to be. Even if they attempt to hold you responsible how can they. They are not putting you in a position that you can be responsible for the money - there is no lock it is just money in a drawer.

Your suprevisor went into your drawer. How can you be responsible for your drawer if someone else is allowed to go through it?

I would only pay the money if I felt like I was responsible. I would ask to see a tape - I bet you see someone taking the 100$.

Demand to see the tape if they are demanding you pay.

Even then you can;t sign away your legal rights in most states. So I still think it is BS. That and when another person went into the cash drawer, your libaility went out with it.

Wow if you tell them you've already got another job (as in put in your notice)... it makes you look all the more guilty. Bad situation.

Just spoke with HR, she seemed to understand my problem and she even said "yeah i know its hard when everone has acess to your bank" she says shes going to see how she can help me out and she'll call me tommorow. Her toned sounded like she understood me and was going to help me, but then again HR ppl are trained to sound that way.

Yes, yes we are.

I know it varies from company to company, but keep in mind, HR is EMPLOYER #1 and EMPLOYEE #2...when push comes to shove, HR is there to protect the employer.

seriously i agree. the hotel shouldnt be allowed to hold you responsible for something you ahve no control over. No locks, but you're responsible. So i steal all $300 and you pay it back. LOL what a joke.

tell them to take you to small claims court if they want it.

I'm afraid they'll take it out my next paycheck... I was thinking about talking to the general manager about this, but i guess i'll try HR first.

they cant take it out of your paycheck without your permission, nor can they hold your check till you pay. its against the law.

im a loss prevention consultant/investigator. I know what im talking about. If you need advice PM me

QFT. Just because you signed something doesn't make it legal.

You signed something saying you'd be personally responsible for the money in an unlocked drawer which many people have access to? That was dumb.

Theres 3 computers in the front desk and 3 drawers under them, thats where each of our banks go. We'll the other day I was missing $100 from my bank, which i understand its my reponsibility. Now i've never been missing more then $1 since i started working there 2 1/2 years ago. So i looked closely at my money and something seemed strange, then my supervisor told me that he used my bank to get change from. Heres the thing, i never authorized him to exachange any money of his from my bank, and we don't have locks in our drawers so its not like its my fault for not locking it. I don't think this is fair. What do you guys think i should do about it?

That's some shoddy controls over money. The drawers should be locked with limited access. I can't see why they should force the missing $100 on you.

Find a new job. Have them take you to small claims court. They'll never win.

they still want to make me pay... HR told me everyone before me had to pay and if she lets me slide it will set a bad example. She also seems to be considering having a sit down with me and my supervisor because he said he didnt go through my bank without my permission. I don't see what the point of this is, i guess their considering having both of us split this cost. This is starting to get annoying, whenever theres a pissed of customer they give them $50 worth of meals or a free stay or they adjust alot of rates and charges. Yet they treat us employees like sh*t.

There is no way you should pay. Just remember that, and if they fire you, so what? Obviously your sup is lying, chances he stole or it is too afraid of getting caught "making change" when he wasn't supposed to. Go off that.

Tell them to kiss your ass.

They have absolutely no legal grounds to make you pay.

They can fire you, but they can't make you pay.

Have the meeting with your supervisor and HR. Tell them you don't agree and you quit. They can try to take you to small claims court, but I highly doubt they would win and it probably wouldn't be worth it to them over $100.

Tell them to cram these allegations up their ass. If they're going to give everyone access to everyone else's "banks", then tell them you can't possibly be held accountable for that regardless of what papers were signed. If they don't give you the proper tools to safeguard items under your supervision, then that's their problem.

They may try to use scare tactics, especially if the person accusing you is the same person who stole it in the first place. They need to cover their own ass.
