Are there any good tools out there for managing an mp3 collection? What do you guys use to organize your files and make playlists?

Thanks,
Jason

First, organize your MP3s.

For me, it Goes My Music Folder--->Genre Folders (Classic Rock, Classical, Mood, etc.)--->Artists--->Albums

Then it is easy to set up playlists in winamp 3. Need a classic rock playlist? Create one and add all files in "My Music--->Classic Rock"

Also, it is then easy to add music when you get more songs.

the best way to organise them is to start organising from scratch, then whenever you download/rip but them in the right place

been doin that for a few years now and have a nice uniform collection

Yeah I use winamp to play the music, but manually creating playlists from a song library of over 8,000 songs it is hard to manage by hand other than basic Rock/Rap/Country classifications by folder. I was hoping there is a program out there than can creat a playlist for winamp (or another program if necessary) based on my mood or something. Like I can fire up a program, hit the "I feel like rocking out" button and have the proggie read the ID3 tags of all my mp3s and pull out all the hard rock or something.

Any ideas?

Windows Media Player 9 has some very good organization. I use/like it.

Give it a try

from a tip here, use Tag&Rename if you need to edit lots of ID3 tags. works very well.

I got a question. I use Tag&Rename, but have problems with it. All my file names are correct, but I want it to go through, and change the id3 tags that way, based on the FILE name. I tried this, but it truncated the first letter of the title, and didn't seperate them into artist / title format.

Any ideas?

i noticed this when there isn't a " - " between artist and title:

artist -title

instead of:

artist - title

are yours like this?

Ok, I'm looking at it right now, and it's in the format:
artist - title

Is that RIGHT or WRONG? (I can just easily try it both ways I guess.)

Windows Explorer for file names and folder organization (Music \ Artist \ Album), and UltraTagger for ID3V2 tags.
