Here is the problem.
At home I have an uncapped line.
At work I have a proxy line that monitors bandwith.
What i want to do is get files from rapidshare and other sites that use authentication to my home pc from work. Is there any way to do so? I was thinking remote desktop, but have never set it up server side.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

I use Go To My PC - as long as my home system is on, I can access it and operate it from any Internet access point in the world. But - it is not free.

Consider LOGMEIN - a similar, supposedly free program.:

Just turn on remote desktop on your pc at home, forward the port 3389 to your desktop pc at home, and remember your home public IP or get a free dyndns address so you remeber a hostname instead of an IP.

Thats it to remote desktop. In your client conencting options you need to specify you want to share your drives with the remote machine if you want to move files.

Is logmein free or is there a trial? I just downloaded it but it says I only have 30 days for a trial.

You have some good suggestions for remote control of the home machine. There is something to consider, though. If your work connection has bandwidth monitors, transferring the files through remote desktop or VNC or any other option will still use bandwidth on the office network and may trigger the same response you would get by downloading directly to the office machine.

When the trial of the Pro version expires ( or before the choices are under the subscription information tab) you can switch to the less full featured free version. I have been using the free version to repair/maintain my family's computers but the free version is missing a few features like file transfer.

The free version is fine for what you want to do. If you want to be able to get your files try using Microsoft's Foldershare.
