Man wins motorcycle in state lottery, only to crash into tree days later

Linky

All I can say wear a freaking helmet....and take the MSF course... and dont be him.. even though he took the MSF course thats still a heavy bike for a newbie to handle into a corner.

Its not the bikes fault, hes a freaking idiot. My brother owned a 750cc as his first bike, and a 1100cc as his second. One of the first things he did (1 month after buying his first bike) he drove across the US. All the way from WA to NJ. The guy wasted a completly fine harley..

Though Harbour's eyes are open and he looks around, he is barely aware of his surroundings, Fortune said.

He can breathe on his own, but at St. John's he was being fed through a tube in his stomach. He cannot cough, so a tracheal tube was needed to clear secretions.

🙁 Sad story..

That story is funny as hell to me.
Old man wins bike.
Old man has NEVER owned a bike.
Old mans fails bike class on first try
Passes second time! YAY! Lets ride
Old man is riding a nice, new, LARGE bike as his first bike........

As if all the above dont add up to "LEts be safe", he then goes on and does it without a helmet. He deserves what he got for being so damned dumb. He shoulda bought a starter bike, AND wore a helmet, rather then playin Billy Badass and driving off into the sunset without a helmet on a fat Harley............

Actually the article states very little damage was done to the Harley and only some minor done to the poor tree that jumped out in front of him.

Its only a matter of time before someone wins the lottery and somehow manages to kill himself with that giant lottery check they give you.

Lemme try!! ME ME ME! 😉

Cocaine, tequila and Mexican hookers baby. I'd give myself 8 months 😀

Harbour owned a helmet, but he kept it strapped to the back of his motorcycle.

And on a related note, the back of the motorcycle is reported to be doing well after being temporarily held for treatment and released following the accident. No injury has been noted.

One of the reasons I quit teaching MSF courses is that Texas allows graduates to ride without a helmet.

I also got tired of the sh1t I had to eat when I failed a student.

This guy's story is just sad 🙁

I'm curious -

In states which allow riding without a helmet, what percentage of riders wear them anyway?

Anyway give an estimate?

Here in NY, helmets are law, but a lot of riders (especially on cruisers) wear the tiny beanie type, which are not much better than none at all

What a moron.

I won't ride my bike (the human powered variety) without a helmet, let alone a motorcycle.

I hope for his family's sake he survives, but stupidity is a regressive gene.

Viper GTS

The roads are coated with the skin of many well intentioned people who had no business ever riding a motorcycle.

Well it is not required to wear a helmet here but I still notice most people still wearing them.

In TX you have to have an extra insurance policy if you don't wear a helmet I believe. All the Harley riders here in Austin and Houston ride helmetless... Not a problem. They should just get mini Darwin Awards.

The crotch rocket riders in Houston mostly wear helmets, but not in Austin... I suppose because the ones I've seen ride to and from class and helmets are apparently deadly in close traffic.
