Washington (CNN) -- A 21-year-old man who admitted posting online threats against the creators of the animated TV series "South Park" was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison.

Zachary Adam Chesser encouraged violent jihadists to attack "South Park" writers for an episode that depicted the Prophet Mohammed in a bear suit, court documents said.

He posted online messages that included the writers' home addresses and urged online readers to "pay them a visit," the documents said.

"His actions caused people throughout the country to fear speaking out -- even in jest -- to avoid being labeled as enemies who deserved to be killed," U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride said. "The fact that a young man from Northern Virginia could support such violence and terror is a sobering reminder of the serious threat that homegrown jihadists pose to this country."

Chesser pleaded guilty in October to providing material support to terrorists, communicating threats and soliciting others to threaten violence. The three charges carried a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

"I accept full responsibility for all of my actions, and I would like to take the opportunity to express remorse," he said in court.

Chesser, who was born in the United States, converted to Islam in high school. U.S. District Court Judge Liam O'Grady told Chesser he had made a big leap from being a high school athlete to a traitor.

Chesser also admitted that he tried to go to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab, an Islamic militant group that the United States considers a terrorist organization.

I think what he did was seriously wrong, but 25 years seems kind of steep considering murderers can get off with less.

On the other hand, maybe we should just be giving murderers longer sentences. 😀

At least he actually had a court hearing and sentencing implying he won't be waterboarded at Gitmo for the rest of his days. When they first openned Gitmo they put a 14 year old in there. No judge, no lawyer, charges, no mail, no nothing.

It seems like a lot of white males aren't integrating well into American society.

Race has nothing to do with it but that religion will fuck you up for good if you "misunderstand it" like so many seem to. Attracts already marginalized borderline sociopaths hence it's popularity in prisons.

Boohoo.

AGREED! When are we going to prosecute Obama for his keeping of Gitmo open? :awe:

Good news indeed. Kinda sucks this waste of space is going to be sucking up tax payer money for 25 years though.

Indeed! Charles Manson is responsible for telling people to go kill other people and that asshole was locked away for a long time.

Manson SHOULD have been sent to the gas chamber, which was what his original sentence was. The retards on the California Supreme Court screwed that up with People v. Anderson.

I'm glad this scumbag got a long sentence. This is America, if I want to publish a picture of Mohammed being violated by a pig then that's my right.

It's far too long of a sentence.

For providing material support to terrorists? After he tried to join a Somalian terrorist organization?

At least you don't hide your love for anyone who is anti-American.

The firing squad would have been in order here.

Holy crap!

I agree with both parts of your comment.

That's ironic since one of the first if not the very first death in Afghanistan was a Special Forces sergeant shot in the back by a fourteen year old - who escaped while the brass was debating whether or not they could detain a fourteen year old. Personally I identify more with the American children who lost their fathers than with the children who killed them, but I realize that for a large portion of the country and the world the values are reversed.

Us liberals only support Death Panels when they are used in healthcare 😉
