WDIV reports:
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A gunman opened fire in two Michigan homes Thursday, killing seven people before leading police on a high-speed chase through downtown Grand Rapids and later taking three hostages in a standoff that ended when he committed suicide, authorities said.

...

Records show Dantzler was released from state prison in 2005 after serving time for assault less than murder. A spokesman for the prison system said he had not been under state supervision since then.
Two of the victims were children.

I'm sad for the victims and their families, but happy that this piece of shit is no longer alive. Saves the taxpayers a decent amount of money.

so someone with a felony record was able to acquire a gun...

I'm not calling for gun control - but seriously, what can be done about reducing the access people have to guns who aren't legally able to purchase them?

You guys laugh at 'buyback' programs. You scream bloody murder at the mention of 'assault weapon ban' (and admittedly flawed effort), but is it right to just keep burying our heads in the sand at how easily guns are acquired?

To me - gun 'shows' are a farce and should be much more strictly regulated - personal sales of guns should be treated just like selling your own car - there should be a 'title' or the equivalent that must legally change hands as well. What else can be done?

I'm down with concealed carry and the right to own guns - I just think that once you've lost that right it should be near impossible to get one, and sadly, as people find out every day here, that's not at all the case.

Is there any evidence this person acquired his gun at a gun show? Or are you just trollin'? How to you propose we prevent people from illegally acquiring guns? Tracking devices implanted in people which prevent them from holding one? Maybe it shocks them if a certain amount of lead comes within 100 feet of them?

it stinks that my home town gets top story for something like this. A friend lives near there and was told to stay in her home, saw the helo with spot lights and all that.
