and i have an older epson printer that doesnt have that issue. i routinely pop out the color cartridge and reseat it to fool it that i changed it. it runs a while before asking again, once it gauges the ink left versus the size of the bladder.

maybe he should have removed the plastic cover from the cartridge before installing it...

He just needs to rant better. I have a Canon with chipped inked cartridges that gives me headaches from time to time...but it's still MILES better than any of the Epson's I've ever owned. (in fact, the Canon iP4200 is the first NON-Epson ink-jet I've ever owned. (they make good doorstops when they crap out!)

I have one Epson AIO machine that went to hell about 2 months after the warranty expired--clogged print heads. Very typical Epson issue, especially with that model.
I contacted Epson and they replaced it at no cost...much to my surprise.

I needed a printer while this was going on, so I picked up the Canon for near nothing in an Office Depot "open box" deal (that came with everything including replacement cartridges) and when the replacement Epson arrived, it got stuck in a closet and hasn't been used since.

Because of the costs of ink, I bought a Canon Laser AIO machine a year or so ago. Yes, $82 for a new toner cartridge, but that lasts me a year...ink would have cost me $250-300 for the same volume of papers.

People still buy ink cartridges and toners?

It's cheaper for me to just keep buying printers than to waste my time trying to replace the ink cartridges and toner or hacking the chips they put on them.

I bought two laser printers 2 months ago.
A Brother 2140 laser at Frys for $20, and a Samsung laser at staples for $20 after rebate.
The starting toners on those will last me a while...until I decide to get another laser printer for $20 in 12 months.

I hate bubblejet printers for that. The ink dries up, that's the problem really.

That troubleshooter also made me jarr out. It reminds me of when I was testing Microsoft Operations manager. Whenever it detected an error it was usually dumb stuff like that for resolution. One that I remember was somethng like this:

New Incident on [pc name]: An unknown error has occurred!

cause: This can be caused by various reasons
