MIAMI (Reuters) - A man on vacation for his 10th wedding anniversary threw his two young sons from the 15th floor of their hotel in Miami's South Beach on Saturday and then jumped, killing himself and the children, police said.

His wife and mother of the children told police she came out of the bathroom just as her husband, in his 40s, jumped at around 8:30 a.m.

"The mother heard a scream and then ran to the balcony," police spokesman Bobby Hernandez said.

"When she looked over the balcony, she saw her husband and her two children."

The two boys, aged four and eight, were still in their pajamas. The couple from Illinois had apparently not been arguing before the incident and police were still investigating the motive for the husband's actions, Hernandez said.

Holy cow.....I really wonder what was going through that man's mind. Sure kill yourself, but your own children?! That is messed up.

Just imagine the mom. She's probably going to be thinking about that last argument they had for the rest of her life 🙁

That'd be enough to drive a person over the edge

That dad really must have been a sick bastards, especially for throwing his own children over the edge.

Ummmm, does no one else think it sounds the least bit fishy that the Dad seemed to have no motive and the Mom survived? If the Dad really were going psycho he'd have probably taken her with him as well.

NOT DEFENDING HIM BY ANY MEANS PLEASE KNOW THAT, but something doesn't sound right there.

According to the news reports, there were witnesses...so that kinda shoots down THAT theory...

I'm not sure how you've determined that this news story is indicative of a widespread trend...especially one that is exclusive to the present day.

Still sad though...

It makes sense to me. You have to think twisted.

He was mad at his wife. What could he do to make her life miserable? Kill her children and himself, possibly making her feel responsible.

People did crazy thing 4000 years ago, 2000 years ago, and will continue to do so today. But now with a greater population you'll have a greater chance of finding more wackos out there..

Gives a whole new meaning to being, *pushed over the edge*

Sooo many questions, dear god, so sad. RIP to those two innocent boys. 🙁

Makes me suspect there was an impending divorce, (celebrating their anniversary?) maybe she hit him with that, and told him she was taking his kids.. Some guys might get seriously nuts over that. Me, I told my wife not to threaten me with peace & quiet...😉
We obviously don't know what caused the guy to hit the breaking point, but it must have been hella serious to cause him to do this.
"The b!tch ain't takin MY kids"...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! splat. I guess he showed her...
Sux.

Hmmmm. It said nothing of eyewitnesses in the link you provided. I was making my "theory" based off of that information.
