It's scary how so many people feel this is ok to do stuff while driving, especially texting.

I wont even take a drink while driving, at very least if I absolutely must check a text or something, I'll wait till the next red light or stop sign but even that is not legal, so I usually avoid it altogether.

Really doesn't look much different than when we were all teens. You may not want to admit it, but most were bad drivers ;p

I distinctly remember the day in my early 20s when I discovered that all the lights that were timed for 25 mph were also timed for 50. It's shocking I never got a ticket.

I wasn't too bad. I had to borrow my dad's car and if I crashed it... Well let's just say that a fatal outcome would have been the easy option for me.

Oh, yeah, plenty of stupid in my youth. I remember two distinct instances. Both with a car full of friends, of course.

One, I was just driving down the road, nothing in particular going on, and I'm slumped down in the bench seat of our old Ford. Slumping, slumping, slumping... At about 35MPH, I decided to push myself back up in the seat so I could see over the steering wheel. By using both feet on the brake pedal. Locking up all the wheels and skidded about 100 feet. Luckily, I didn't really lose control, stayed mostly on my side of the road, and nobody went through the windshield.

The other time, we were chasing someone else in their car late at night. Driving like a maniac down a side street, we came to a 90 degree T with a small two-lane highway. There was a Dairy Queen on the corner, and trying to cut the corner I went wheeling through their gravel parking lot. Lost control, spun the car 180 degrees, and missed the building by about ten feet.

i distinctly remember learning that just because ice melted on a sunny road does not mean that it also had melted in the shady spots

this insight came to me quickly as i slid out of the icy curve at 35 mph, careened into a muddy yard littered with trees, grazed a stump with the underbody of my car, somehow managed to floor my way out without stopping or hitting any of the trees, and then pulled out onto the road on the other side of the curve.

LOL

Now this was something I did learn before driving. Bridges are also dangerous since they tend to freeze first. Also the first rain after a long stretch of dry can be bad, all the built up oils begin to surface making things slick.

While I didn't have the driving experience of an adult, I always knew that if I wrecked my father's car it would be the end of my world. Therefore, I was always heads up, checking the mirrors and not screwing around. These kids just don't seem to give a rats ass, even after wrecking.

On top of that, they are doing all of this knowing that they are being recorded. Maybe a sign of the times, but I'm very hesitant to turn on the PDR in my car because I know that anything perceived as wrong can be reviewed later.

Those cameras would also record their gruesome deaths in the case of a bad accident. Dunno if I'd want that footage if I was a parent.

Why not? That would be great.

"Hey Sally, you remember what happened to Billy? Don't make me pull out the video."

I know I saw tons of smashed, exploded, and eviscerated bodies when I took my drivers class.

'Course back in my day we had to make the money to buy the car and insurance ourselves. Means we actually appreciated what we had and gave a shit.

Today every kid has the RIGHT to several Apple products, each that cost more than my first car (literally)...and if they don't get a new BMW for free on their 15th birthday you're a terrible parent.

But that's getting off topic...sorry.
