Troy Ryan Bellar, 34, used a high-powered rifle with a scope to shoot his 31-year-old wife, Wendy, when she tried to leave their home, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Two of the couple's children -- 5-month-old Zack and 7-year-old Ryan -- also were killed, but a 13-year-old got away, with the father chasing and firing after him, officials said.

Seems like a weekly occurrence... or that the media is reporting them more frequently.

Yeah, the media wouldn't bother reporting on events like this in the past.

Well when people go insane there isn't much you can do. I guess maybe his family would have had more of a change if he was chasing them with an axe, but probably not much. Sad, but a fact of life.

Media reported on Freeway shootings for a while in LA then stopped. Not because the freeway shootings stopped but because they found something else to report on. There was freeway shootings before they started reporting and there is still today.

The Swine Flu, has been around for many many years. Why did they make a big deal about it this year?.

I rather dislike the media hype.

That being said OP post is a very sad story.

How do you know he went insane?

Bellar was arrested twice in Polk County: for aggravated assault in 1994, and for driving under the influence in 1999. His wife was arrested in March for battery domestic violence

The plot thickens.

Sane people typically don't kill their family. But any sane person dead set on killing their family has the same success rate (if not slightly higher) then an insane one with or without a rifle.

How do you know he went insane?

It's hard to believe that a sane person would murder his family.

What if he found out his children were sleeping with this wife? Kill them all?

gotta watch those 5 month olds. you know how they get.

It will continue to happen, not much they can do about it except increase the availability of things like counselors and mental health.

The media is just like the papers that sell at the grocery checkout. They will promote any story that gets them advertising dollars. All this crap about unbiased, fair and balanced, is just that crap. If they advertise then they are biased.

And god forbid you have twins.

You won't ever see a boob again.

I love how AT knows exactly where the line marked "do not cross" is. Then, after careful discernation of the line we leap several hundred yards past it. WTF is wrong with you people?

Unfortunately it is the trend.
People are becoming numb to violence.

The plot thickens.

The plot definitely thickens.

Aggravated assault is a felony in Florida. Convicted felons are not legally allowed to own firearms. Yet another case where enforcement of existing laws would have saved lives.

Maybe it was a dashed line?

yeah, really. Is it mostly due to lay-offs? Reminds me of how hamsters and other small rodents will eat their young if conditions aren't favorable for the colony.
