lol is this what the right would like to become commonplace in the USA? Armed men shopping with assault rifles around their shoulders and holstered weapons? It'd be like the wild west all over again. yeeeeeeeeeeeeha!

http://news.yahoo.com/video/photo-man-jc-penney-shopper-230414356.html

he did it to demonstrate "guns are not dangerous in the hands of law abiding citizens". Question is, how in the HELL are we supposed to know he's a law abiding citizen??

Obviously anyone carrying a gun into a store is a law abiding citizen, it's only when they start shooting people that they are breaking the law. The obvious thing to do is nothing until they start shooting people.

For example, in Newtown the shooter should have the right to enter the school with a gun, he knew people that worked there and no one should have done anything to stop him BUT when he started killing kids and adults, that's when he crossed the line.

So to summarize; the reasonable thing to do is allow everyone to exercise their 2nd amendment rights and carry a gun where ever they want and then make shooting people illegal.

After all we are a country full of pussies and they have to be able to protect themselves at any moment.

so, you are assuming every individual is NOT a law abiding citizen?

pick one:
All people are law-abiding
No person is law-abiding

NY stop and frisk tactics ring a bell?

Edit:

Just watched the video 'He informed Police Dispatch of his intent prior to leaving for the store'.

trollbear, can you not selectively use quotes that make your stance seem the most legit?

He asked, 'How are we to know he is a law-abiding citizen'

what other choice is there?

and yes i understand that i posted a false dilemma, however the OP is the one who truly did... he stated it and thus only gave 2 choices.

he also clearly used the post as an effort to sway opinion in his favor by selectively quoting portions of the video that fit his agenda and not others.

not unlike Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, etc.

lol wow. so, according to you guys, its "obvious" the guy is law abiding because he's walking in with a rifle around his shoulder and has a holstered gun? what PLANET are you guys living on? if i see someone walking into a store with weapons red flags IMMEDIATELY go up & its FAR from obvious that he's law abiding! This isn't the 19th century wild west, we have police & a government, not random people with no training & no people skills being armed to the teeth to protect us from who they think are "bad guys". At least the police have extensive training and i can trust them not to misuse their weapons, but private citizens i know nothing about walking around with rifles has so many variables that it'd make me uncomfortable unless i knew the guy was trained, not hot tempered, and not having a bad day. Indeed, i totally believe there are more stupid people out there than intelligent people, so NO, i don't think its obvious that this 22 yr old kid is law abiding. If anything i think he's a kid with an ego and wants to give off a tough guy image.

I'm from Toronto, that guy would be tackled to the ground and arrested on SIGHT! So no, its NOT obvious he's law abiding to me.

I remember when i was in the militia here a member of our platoon with a rifle got tackled and arrested by police after falling behind during our morning PT. We were running a few blocks from our armory with our C7s (Canadian M16 variants) around our shoulders when he fell behind. People saw him running alone with a rifle around his shoulder & called the cops (despite being in uniform). 10 minutes later and he was swarmed by police. lol it was hilarious at the time but totally called for.

yet again, you can't watch and listen to a video.

I'm going from memory here, but i believe it stated he is or was in the military, so your whole 'untrained' part goes out the window

and yes, speaking for myself, if i see someone with a holstered, un-loaded weapon, I have no worries about the person.

So the people are ok with a bunch of guys running with guns, but not one? In an area where presumably they see that kind of thing all the time? And he was in uniform? And that was perfectly ok? Actually, it was illegal.

Anyway, I agree with the idea that it's such a rarity seeing people out with rifles or shotguns like this that it is truly expected that many would feel uncomfortable about it.

Wow the trolling is strong in this thread. Why do we have guns? Hunting, to kill people, and to defend ones self right? So as a rational human being if I saw someone enter a JC Penny I would make a rational guess that he's a) not hunting b) not defending himself and c) there to kill people. He of course knew this since he called ahead of time.

What he demonstrated is that he's an asshole with a super hero complex.

Just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should do something.

I assume stores can make their own rules about whether or not they want people bringing rifles onto their premises.

1. not in the US, they're known to be cow-boys
2. hot tempered policemen can be found in peaceful Switzerland too, it's just that they won't use the pistol

Yeah because it's not a frequent sight and it's illegal.
If it's illegal in Canada, of course you're going to be scared and he's going to be tackled, because he's knowingly committing a crime which probably means he's going to do something way worse like rob the store.
In a place where it's legal, I see no reason to panic.

The thing about the militia is just retarded instead. OMG call the police! There's an armed soldier!

There's your problem and why you don't understand the 2nd amendment like us rifle-toting department store shoppers.

This is the 2nd Amendment equivalent of burning an American flag to assert your free speech rights. It should be legal, and should also be shunned by most normal people as being the action of a self-absorbed asshole.

People who do dumb stuff like this just make a mockery of the 2nd amendment and further show that people who own guns aren't mentally sound.

I don't think open carrying should be legal, only concealed carry. The only purpose of open carrying is intimidating people

Do you have to express a Right in order to retain it? That's the true question here.

no, YOU'RE missing the entire point, how are WE supposed to know such things if its just random people walking around armed?!? We're to assume everyone that is armed and showing off their arms is trained and has public safety in their hearts?

LOL Assault rifle!!!! What assault rifle???

oh sorry, it LOOKS like an assault rifle, but i'm supposed to whip out my rifle manual and confirm its the a rifle colored and shaped like an assault rifle, but its NOT an assault rifle. Entirely my fault!

Haha what a selfish prick.

I'm not going to bother with rights and what not, but walking into a department store with a couple of guns is going to scare the shit out of everybody, except the right-wing e-hero tuff-guyz that populate AT. They'd probably get stiffy's and stand awkwardly gawking and grinning.

The guy in the video did it to prove a "point", to satisfy his own ego. He basically just jerked off to himself. Why is it that only guys seem to do this kind of retarded gun crap?

But he's still stroking his own engorged, swollen ego. It's such a shameless display.

He's not breaking any rules, but he's being completely insufferable.

Have u heard of something called escalation? They'll get bigger guns in bigger numbers. If ure desperate enough, an AR-15 aint gonna stop u. I remember those LA bank robbers that had body armor & assault rifles didnt give a damn and shot everyone in sight that threatened them, including cops.
