A US man mistakenly shot dead his 15-year-old son while investigating what appeared to be an attempted burglary next door, police say.

Jeffrey Giuliano, from New Fairfield in Connecticut, opened fire on a masked teenager outside his sister's house.

Police later told him he had killed his son Tyler. No charges have yet been filed in the case.

I have no sympathy for thieves. Especially since my house was robbed before, but this is something no parent should experience.

Ah. I wonder how he felt after this.

On one hand, he got to live the gunholders wet dream of taking a human life, on the other, the dangerous criminal he thought he was killing was his own blood.

lulz.

That story makes no sense. Kid "lunged" at him, right....
Yes. The kid makes no sense. Mask, dark clothes, "shiney" object, breaking into his aunts house....

More to the story. Mental/drug issues? Maybe ussfletcher can do some more reading between the lines and tell us.

If only more parents would do this to kids who rob and steal this country might be a better place.

What the fuck was his son thinking???

With that said, a good portion of your burglar's do target relative's homes. Why? Because they know whats in there.

That's what I'm thinking, this was a legit robbery. Why the kid didn't know there was a GUN in either house is epic fail.

Although why the hell would he do it while they were home...

I'm going to say kid was a drug addict.

The guy was masked and lunged at him. He protected himself. It doesn't matter if he had a gun or a bat or used his fists to kill the person. Family or not you would protect yourself if you felt that your life was in danger. People kill their family members all the time. So you just never know what someone is capable of doing and you can truly only rely on yourself to keep yourself protected.

Not sure why it doesn't make sense, isn't the majority of crimes committed by people who know the victim?

He's livin' the dream bro. It is always better to kill people trying to protect a bunch of inanimate objects than to call the cops.

My heart goes out to the father and the rest of the family.

The son...not so much. WTF was he thinking? Or was he?

Probably true so why...
Mask, dark clothes, "shiney" object, breaking into his aunts house
and lunges at his Dad and, surely, knows she's home.

More to the story. Mental/drug issues?

No, he lived the gun grabber's wet dream of providing a headline that can be easily twisted across the internet.

Home invaders should be shot.

The only tragedy is that he obviously failed to raise that child.
