Man Shoots Himself In The Head At NRA 500

NFS4

No Lifer
Damn hillbillies! 😉

Yesterday during the National Rifle Association-sponsored NRA 500 at the Texas Motor Speedway, it was reported that a man died in the infield. Today, the medical examiner has determined the cause of death to be suicide. Kirk Franklin, 42, of Saginaw, Texas, shot himself in the head. The Associated Press (via USA Today) with more:

Fort Worth police have said a man who was camping in the infield died of a "self-inflicted injury" after getting into an argument with other campers. The incident happened late in the Sprint Cup race.

Police spokeswoman Cpl. Tracey Knight has said alcohol may have been a factor. Knight said several people witnessed the incident, but nobody was in danger.

Track spokesman Mike Zizzo say the death occurred "in or around a pickup truck" in part of the infield near the middle of the backstretch.
The National Rifle Association has yet to issue a statement on the Franklin's death, though the incident will likely further stoke the country's already-contentious gun debate.

If you got into an argument with someone and you had a gun, wouldn't you shoot the other person and not yourself? :hmm:

So a quick question.

It appears to be socially correct to laugh at a suicide, but not a murder...is this correct?

Since there are no written rules to this effect I have been getting a lot of shit lately and I am trying to figure it all out. Serious question.

Or is this funny because nobody here knows the guy?

It's all about the circumstances.

Because as the NRA wants you to believe, only bad people do bad things with guns.

The NRA is an organization made up of 5,000,000+ people like myself who elect our representatives within the organization, and is entirely funded by donations of people like myself.

Outside of negligence with a loaded firearm leading to an "accident" it is only bad people doing bad things with guns. 99.99% of firearms usage isn't the crime you see on TV.

Made up on the spot statistics and irrelevant information to the statement is the typical dogmatic jargon I expect. Keep your blinders on and keep moving.

The anti gun crowd likes to mock the 2nd amendment crowd, and anyone they consider "rednecks".

In the 50's and early 60's it would have been blacks they mocked, but now they're to enlightened to ridicule someone over their race (other than white) so it becomes a cultural thing.

Not completely true. Rednecks have always been mocked, by blacks and whites. And in the 50s and 60s, pro- and anti-gun whites mocked blacks.

I don't even know why this made the news.

They had to dig up some kind of dirt on the NRA 500 I guess since they were pressuring Nascar to change the title of the race and tried super hard for something relating to guns.

So you think they hired a guy to commit suicide in the infield during the race?

Or do you think people dying at a sporting event is not newsworthy and that the media should have not reported it? They only reported the news to get the NRA 😡

Man commits suicide: lol stupid hillbillies
Woman commits suicide: national tragedy

i think it was more the NASCAR + alcohol + NRA event + um, well..actually camping in the infield of a NASCAR event drunk off your ass and shooting yourself in the head that = hillbillies and lolhilarious part.

but, please. do go on.

I'm curious how often this happens at NASCAR events?

Sure, if it's a monthly occurrence that a dude shoots himself in the head in the infield of a left-turning event and no one usually seems to care, then I would be inclined to agree with you that this is just "digging up dirt." Please, do go find some precedent.

...but however you want to interpret the reporting of it...this is obviously weird.

This is fascinating, these numbers.

I wonder if you have a source?
