Wait, they were going to change the names to Christmas and Easter breaks? I'm really tired of the need to be insanely PC with some people and so I think I'd support the school doing that just for that reason.

I don't know who is more stupid, the guy or the holy roller administrators. Give me one rational reason to rename non-denominational holidays into christian ones.

yeah i know, but does it fvcking matter? I'm a hindu and I really dont care if they change the name of saturday to jesusday. I have my beliefs and its strong enough that it wont be changed just cause something is named on behalf of another religion

QFT. The reason that December 25th and several (or many, in some school districts) days around it are considered holidays = Christmas. Same for Easter. The break occurs because of the holiday, not because of the season.

If you're going to give the students a break for Christmas and Easter, why deny that? Winter break I could see, because there are other holidays at the same time. But Easter moves around on the calendar, so if they're making a point of giving the students a break whenever Easter falls each year, I think it's stupid to refuse to call it Easter break.

That said, I don't see the point of changing BACK after they've already renamed the breaks winter and spring break. It's just a name, and it's only going to cause people to get pissed off. People need to learn to pick their battles - something as insignificant as the name of a school break should not matter. The people who do these things to "fight back" against political correctness are just as bad as their counterparts on the PC side. Like everyone who gets pissed off about "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas." Who the hell cares?!

Easter can be argued, because you could also call it Passover break. Either way, who cares what you call the breaks?

Christmas break could be argued as well, because Hanukkah and Kwanzaa occur around the same time. They're called Christmas and Easter break because 90% of the American population celebrates these holidays on these days.

I think you're right, they need to pick their battles and not waste their time with something as insignificant as this.

Easter is (I believe) the first sunday after the second full moon after the vernal equinox.

According to Wikipedia, Passover begins on the 15th day of Nisan, which is the month between nightfall on March 25 and nighfall on April 24. So it starts in early April and lasts 7 days.

Apparantly Easter and Passover do not always occur at the same time - the break presumably includes Easter every year, but does not always coincide with Passover.
