Hitler was Austrian. It's a sensitive issue there. As a Jew who lost many family members in the camps I'm happy to see him go to jail but I don't think he should.

And no, this has nothing to do with 'hate crime'. This is a clear violation of the man's right to free speech.

Talk about double standards.

Please tell me you are joking? The US has a right ot free speech, not the WORLD. just because it is legal here does not apply to the other 90+% of the people of this planet.

And good. I hate idiots that say the holocaust never happened. My grandmother was in germany after WW2 and even adopted my step mom while there. Trust me, IT HAPPENED. She went to some of the camps, even the one in schindler's list.

If it happened, then why not convince the man that he is wrong instead of imprisoning him. This is an obvious display of double standards with regards to the freedom of speech Europe has been touting to the Muslims over the cartoon fiasco.

Because somepeople will not believe anything even if you show it to their face.

Yeah, but he has the right to say it, just as you have the right to call him an idiot for saying it, isn't free speech great?

Um, and your quote is not even close either. Under a system that claims to have a freedom of speech, then you cannot prevent somebody for saying something unpopular as long as it does not result in a crime occuring or injuries (such as in your FIRE scenario).

If I found some "facts" that now lead me to believe that the US never dropped any nuclear bombs on Japan, I should be 100% justiied in proposing it. That is freedom of speech. Would it piss off a lot of people? Sure, but so what? There is no law yet that says pissing somebody off is a crime, if so cars would definetely become outlawed based on their cause of road rage.

I posted this earlier:

which doesn't make up ALL of Europe.

If you'll notice, Denmark isn't on that list, despite being invaded by Germany in 1940. They topped the Worldwide Press Freedom Index, and the Danish PM went on record saying "The government refuses to apologize because the government does not control the media or a newspaper outlet; that would be in violation of the freedom of speech".

I don't see any double standards there.

Yeah, I was so shocked that anyone could actually believe what you were writing that I couldn't think of anything else to say. If you can't understand it, nothing I will say will change your mind - I just wanted to know that I compare your ideals to that of North Korea and so would anyone who lived there.

Now that I've calmed down a little, I'll further explain. Your going to compare this to shouting fire in a small room? That analogy makes absolutely no sense at all. Perhaps if you had read this guys books, not that I have but I have an open mind. He says some of the aspects of this were overexaggerated from a historical standpoint. I don't know if hes blowing hot air or if he has some valid proof to back up his claims.

A more apt analogy would be comparing this to Galileo's torture and eventual execution for spreading lies about the world being flat, and the moon rotating around the earth. Or the spanish inquisition. Perhaps on a much smaller scale, but the same nonetheless.

The world should have the right to speak freely. Just because it isn't written in some countries law doesn't mean anything. Not all laws/rules are right.
yes, but it is the law there:
He was convicted under a 1992 law, which applies to "whoever denies, grossly plays down, approves or tries to excuse the National Socialist genocide or other National Socialist crimes against humanity in a print publication, in broadcast or other media."

looks like he broke a law that's been in place for almost 15 years in his country. too bad his sentence couldn't be carried out as a Jew in an Auschwitz death camp during Hitler's reign.

I actually just thought of a better comparisson. This guy being inprisoned for 3 years is akin to all of those 9/11 conspiracy theorists going to jail for throwing up flags relating to that day. I don't believe the government could have known about it, nor any of those other conspiracy theories - but I was intrigued by them and saw a few videos and such. Someone else already said it, Voltaire - I didn't and don't agree with all these people but I stand for freedom of speech whether I agree with it or not.

How many family members of victims in that horrible tragedy are offended by those "George Bush planned 9/11" - in a way its a detriment to their memory as is saying the holocaust never happened. But this guy isn't saying it never happened, he supposedly has facts to back up claims that some aspects of it were overexaggerated. I'm not saying I agree, he's off his rocker just like all the tin-foil hat 9/11 conspiracy nutjobs, but I don't see any of them in court.

Moot point. Violent protest by an extremely small number of people (when comparing it to the number of Muslims worldwide) doesn't stops people from calling all Muslims violent. How is this any different?

I don't see any double standards there.

And the European Union isn't involved in this? They did defend their freedom of speech when the protests on the cartoons started. It makes them a party to this freedom of speech fiasco happening over the holocaust. And what is the European Union? A body comprising of European countries. Exactly!

And if you were a mature adult that had some decency of intelligence you know this person has been going around for a long time and even was fined once before for spreading this fud. So its not like this is the first time, so he did know what he was doing. This type of talk only fuels the BS that is going on in Iran right now. This is what fuels the extremists from the KKK to terriosts that bomb, even suicide bomb, Israelis and even Americans. But yea that does not hurt anyone.

Yeah but if the KKK marches through my city no they have a right to do so, When the Christian wackos from Westboro baptists show up with signs that say "Thank God for dead Miners" at a miners funeral the have the right to do so. And terrorists don't bomb Israelis because they thinkt he holocaust didn't happen, they bomb Israelis because Israel is on land that they think is rightfully theirs, and Israelis kill their people as well. ITs a two way street and a cycle of violence that has no end in site.

Just 'coz Europe created a law that says you cannot question the fact that the Holocaust exist, does it not make it right.

Like trying to tell these people that the holocaust happend...
People that don;t think the holocaust happened

Jesus Marlin you are a fvcking socialist POS

How so. I guess name calling proves that? Wow, you are sure mature.

Yeah, but he has the right to say it, just as you have the right to call him an idiot for saying it, isn't free speech great?

Ok so you have no problem with me calling your boss and telling him you are under watch by the police for being a pedophile or other items? Will you still protect my "free speech"? Where do YOU draw the line? As not all speech is covered yet people liek to think it is until it affects them. So again, where is YOUR line?

There you go with your assinine analogies again. I love how you can't see the difference, nobody is getting hurt directly in this case. But by all means, continue to make yourself look like an ass.

Again your lack of maturity shows with more name calling, wow your a smart one.

And what part of that type of bs only fuels organizations from the KKK and wild extremists. Even the president of Iran uses it to fuel his own greed and to make his people fight against (i.e. kill) Americans and Israelis. But again, that is his ?free speech? and it ?hurts no one?.

I could foresee mosh in here defending such fascism too.

Funny how that law was carried out, saying basically "Don't ever question something that happened in a socialist regime or your going to prison". Which is the very exercise of socialism in and of itself. That law right there is exactly the kind of thing Hitler did. I'd expect this kind of thing in North Korea, but in Italy this is just fvcking retarded.

Mosh - I guess you agree with that 17 yo girl in Iran who got the death penalty for exercising self defense while getting raped. Afterall, she did break the law.
