Man flees from deputies, gets stuck in septic tank near Modesto

A man who inexplicably fled from Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies had to be rescued after he jumped into a septic tank to hide, authorities said.

The incident began around 8 a.m. Tuesday when dispatch got a call about a man obstructing traffic on the 9th Street Bridge in Ceres, near Modesto. When deputies arrived, they saw a man matching the suspect's description at the Arrow Inn. When the man saw the sheriff's cruiser, he ran toward the back of the motel, authorities said.

Deputies drove around to the back but couldn't locate the suspect until they heard a noise and realized he had jumped into a septic tank and gotten stuck.

The Ceres Fire Department was called to get him out, but deputies said he was uncooperative. Eventually, firefighters helped remove him uninjured. His background check came out clean, and since he hadn't actually committed a crime, authorities released him at the scene. When asked why he ran, he told deputies that it's what he had seen people do on TV.

The man was released to family members, who took him to the hospital to make sure he didn't have any health issues from being in the septic tank.

Shitty Tuesday for that guy.
