It was probably some dark Jedi who used Jedi mind trick to fool the clerks into thinking the weapon was a Baleth when it actually was a red lightsaber to frame the Star Trek series and throw authorities off the trail.
 
maybe the clerk in the second 7-11 whipped out a batleth too and challenged him to a fight to the death
